My guess was spot-on about the thin bipedal one being a Grass-type (kinda resembles Treecko [http://www.google.com/search?q=treecko&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&client=firefox-a], don'tcha think?) but it looks like I got the other two switched: We have a Fire piggy with rabbit ears, and a Water-type... okay, I don't actually know what that is. It's holding a seashell, it has a beaver tail and webbed feat, but it almost looks like a perpetually sad panda in a way, don't you think?
The water one totally looks like an Otter to me...
If I was even potentially interested in moving on from Soul Silver (which I'm not) I'd be going with the Otter.

It also says that's the 'Sea Otter' pokemon on Serebii.net.

And I thought Platinum had bad starter pokemon...

Shame on me for actually getting my hopes up about the Pokemon design.

Oh, and the guy is now androgynous. Yaaay... Bleh
Oh come on... you wouldn't like a fire pig type thing? (And while typing that I realized that it would make good bacon) Or something that looked like a little girl dressed up a beaver with the head of a otter? Or some grass thing?
... Are we talking about Pokemon or a delicious dinner?

Actually, that's a good question. Can you eat Pokemon?
Would the grass types be vegetarian? Because, I guess they are technically animals, but they are also grass...
I just got the best idea...

I'm going to make a Pokemon team consisting of gourmet chefs!

"Typhlosion! Use Flamethrower on that pokemon to roast it!

Great! Now Weepinbell, use stun spore to give it a little extra spice!

Awesome! Now use Leech Seed to add some vegetables!

Hurrah! Now Houndoom, use bite to taste and see if it's well done!

Great! Now I just need to catch it and eat it at the local PokeCenter!"

It would totally own a Nuzlocke let's play.

Now we know why Nintendo just keep remaking the same old games again and again.

because their creative department must have gone insane after the first Pokémon by the looks of it
Sorry, but the original 151 Pokemon weren't THAT creative.

Seel? Voltorb? A lizard with his tail on fire?
No you are right.

but I am still surprised how they can keep making now ones

Personally, that's what I liked about the originals. They were strange and weird, but they weren't TOO out there. Hate to link, but Scott's got it right on this one: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=263

A turtle that shot water, a lizard with a plant symbiote, and a burning salamander (not so uncommon when you think of salamanders' mythological relationship with fire).
They evolved into: A BADASS turtle that shot water...from shoulder cannons. A dinosaur with a jungle symbiote. A dragon that breathes fire...because it's a fucking dragon.

Among the other starters that make sense: Totodile (that's a gimme), Treecko ('nother gimme), and even Piplup and Turtwig. Cyndaquil's a little weird, but it's adorable/badass, so it's fine by me.

You could point to most pokemon and think "okay, I see where they got that from." Back then it was more along the lines of 'what if our normal everyday animals were just a little more fantastic?'
Now it's just 'how many things can I think of and palette-swap before the pot wears off.'

The grass one looks better than treeko, and the fire could definitely grow on me, especially if it evolves into something like Ganon from the LoZ series. The water one is lost on me though, but I could the evolutions once they show more. Overall, I think these are better than those fake ones that were circulating the other day.

Nope. Found it on 4chan's /v/ board. People are there arguing over the new starter. Most of them hate the poor little water starter.
XD It figures. I think I'll meander over and check out the fury. Can't really blame 'em after all.

It's good to see pokemon keep getting incresingly uglier in each generation. Oh, how I long for a pokemon game when we can choose from the previous starters as well as these thingies.
Also why does it always have to be fire-water-grass? I can't think of any reason other than "it was like that in red and Blue". Nintendo has shown no intention of mixing things up so far.

Since when is a Dragon a 'normal everyday animal'? Have you ever seen floating magnets with huge eyes? Or boulders with hands?

Even the many evolutions were lazy. 'Lets put three Digglets/Magnetons together and call it an evolution'.

Don't take me wrong. I love the original Pokemon. I just think that you're looking at the older designs trough Nostalgia goggles.

And Scott was also making fun of the grumpy older players being stuck in the past.

Based on this picture, I shall pick the Fire-Pig as my starter, 'cause it looks promising.

My 2nd choice(if the Fire-Pig's evolutions aren't that great looking) would be the Water-Otter. That thing's cute! It also looks promising.

My 3rd(and hopefully NEVER!) choice, would be the grass lizard thing....

I'll probably end up picking the water one just because that's what I've always picked, but my god is it ugly!

Really Nintendo? Really? Good lord, this may be the first time that I'm actually going to pick a grass starter instead of the others.
Reminder: Pokemon isn't made by Nintendo. Pokemon is made by Game Freak and Creatures INC. They're just exclusively licensed to Nintendo.

OT: I'm defiantly retiring this time.

Where's the good old time, when I loved every starter Pokemon. If the starter look so ugly, (especially this strange panda) I don't really want to know how the other new pokemon will look like. But I guess I'll go with the fire type although I usually pick the water typ, when I play a pokemon game for the first time.

I actually quite like them. Although the fire one looks slightly retarded. The grass one looks a whole lot more awesome than usual/I expected.

I like the piggy, i bet his third evolutions like some kind of beastly wild boar.
I want to argue against this, because that pig looks like the stupidest idea ever to me, but I can't stay riled up enough to do it because that stupid avatar keeps making me smile.

Damn you, cynic! You've got the perfect debating weapon, that's not fair!

C'mon guys, you're hating too hard on these starters-- we haven't even seen their evolved forms yet.
Listen to this guy.

The grass guy is cool, the piggy is just awesome (love the colour combination) and you have give the water thing credit for being something new. The water type is the most abundant pokemon type, so coming up with new ideas for water types must be hard.

Sweet, can't wait for these games to come out. The otter looks alright I guess, but I've never been a big fan of the water type starters(still can't bring himself to use Squirtle or Totodile cause they just don't look cool to me, especially compared to others in their gen). The fire piggy looks like it'll be fun to use just like my main man Cyndaquil, and the grass lizard looks like what Treecko should've been instead of the craptastic gecko they made him into.
