Of the three big publishers, EA, Activision, and Ubisoft, I honestly would rather Ubisoft get them. At least Ubisoft wants to try and release new IP every now and again, and they did do a nice job with current IP like bringing back Rayman, when they wern't busy with those stupid Rabids.
See, this is my thought process, but I would still rather chew glass than let ubisoft near THQ and my beloved franchises. They did fix Rayman but quite frankly, they fuck up so much else and I may actually tear up if they ruined metro or saints row<I liked 2 & 3, both deserve love>.

But THQ made such great PC games...
now they'll all have uplay and be only playable half the year because Ubi's servers go down every other week.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has previously expressed interest in THQ's properties. "They have good things,"
"and we want to put an end to that."

Guys ubisoft isn't evil, honestly I think they'd let THQ do it's own thing.

It could be that they're just considering lending a helping hand.
Besides, with Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and (soon to be added) Watch_Dogs I don't think this is a bad thing compared to maybe EA.

Would this really be such a bad thing?

With Ubisoft, EA or Activision we can expect Relic torn apart and assigned to some annualised franchise with Saints Row and maybe Darksiders the only games to remain but stripped way back and put on a yearly release schedule. We can also expect intolerable DRM from either Ubisoft or EA.

They all sound like death...

I'd kinda rather never see DoW 3 or CoH 2 than have Activision, EA or Ubisoft acquire Relic. Unless they take a complete hands off stance from Relic and let them do their thing and none of those pubs have shown any true understanding of the PC market. That said Ubisoft did improve with Rayman so if they keep that attitude up it wouldn't be too bad.
clearly you don't understand! RTS should be console first, and then ported to a PC, after all who really needs a good UI? or M&K, you just need 2 unit, in close up mode. with every other unit brought as DLC

*that was sarcasam*

Relic i think can lose the DOW license at anytime, and if it looks like a game will be truly shit, and sully the DOW name, i expect wargaming will pull the licence faster then you can blink

Well considering Ubi have done Far Cry, AC and Splinter cell, 3 of my favourite franchises, I am quite happy with this news, frankly all of the freaking out here seems a little absurd

Well fuck.

If only this was back when Ubisoft were a genuinely good company.

Fuck no. Ubisoft can do jump off a cliff. DX
Why?
Every PC release they've done has been nothing but a condensed 'FUCK YOU PC GAMING COMMUNITY!'.
On the other hand I've been seeing their older games showing up on GOG. Worst case is we have to wait a while till Ubi's bullshit goes away.

If Company of Heroes 2 and Metro Last light comes with uPlay, I'll be majorily pissed off

Better them than EA or Activision at least.
Ah no, least Activision at most you need Steam to play their games, and that's only the CoD games that I am aware of, Ubisoft's uplay is worse than Origins and damn sight worse than Steam

Noooo this can't happen. If it does than every stinking game will want uplay (or whatever there service is called).

The best thing would be if VALVE bought relic and even if they would make games by valve time is still better than ubisoft, ea, activision.
Then all their games would use Steam. Oh wait, you prefer one DRM over another? Seems a bit daft.

I'm a PC gamer and I find all the freaking out to be extremely absurd. As a collective, the gaming community gets a little oversensitive some days.

I'm one of these gamers who likes to be able to play their games, regardless of the quality or availability of the servers that handle them.

Well at least steam doesn't suck that much (not ideal drm but better than competition). But the main problem for me is that ubisoft is the worst company for pc games. I am sorry if I offended anyone, but ubisoft doesn't care about customers. Just look how long they needed for offline mode in there games and they still claim that the are the angels in a pool of satans.

I still to this day have GLARING issues with Steam's offline mode. Over half my library goes unplayable in offline mode, leaving me with like...DA:O and Audiosurf. The rest of the games claim they need to be updated, in some manner before being played, while in offline mode. Then go playable if I hop back online, without downloading a thing.

It's great Steam "has" an offline mode. It'd be nice if it wasn't completely broken.

How so?
You mean how they habitually refer to PC gamers as pirates. Not just an amount of them but ALL of us. Their DRM is vicious to the extreme, compared to Steam it's like comparing a collar to a collar made of barbed-wire. They assured people that From Dust would not have DRM and yet it did. They lied. How stupid did they think people would be to not notice that crap.

At least Steam does offer an offline mode. Ubisoft's DRM didn't even come with an offline mode. I won't say it's perfect either. I've had time to need it and it's not worked but for the most part, it has worked.

Then of course, any kind of new DRM that comes around, they jump into it full tilt. Remember Starforce? Remember how much bullshit that caused? I build my own computers and for whatever reason, Starforce would throw hissy fits because I had more than one disc drive. In order to play Silent Hunter III I had to open my computer's case up to disconnect the SATA cables. How did I get around it? I used a NOCD crack that bypassed the Starforce crap. I legally buy a lot of games. I've been paying for games since I got work. I won't lie, I have pirated games when I was much, much younger. Because I couldn't afford them and my family wasn't rich enough to let me buy the games I wanted. And I was young and stupid. But now, I am gainfully employed so I buy my games. I've bought games from GoG and Steam that I'd pirated before.
