fsanch, I'm gonna grant you everything you said because people are raging.
I'm disappointed at L4D2, but I'm even more disappointed to see any forum descend into rageflame.
That said, the reason I'm against L4D2 is simple. Yes, it's a lot of new content, but there's no new core mechanic. Looking at every game Valve has made, there was a strong reason for making a new game as opposed to an update.
Half-Life 2: Gravity gun.
Counter-Strike: Source: CS gameplay is solid but graphics are out of date. Added maps, too
DOD:S : Valve wanted to rebalance DOD, but couldn't overhaul the mechanics of a multiplayer game without pissing off professional leagues. Overhauled graphics too with some new tech.
Episode 1: It's not a full game, so it wasn't advertised as one. Added some new mechanics and enemies, as well as new content and use of graphical engine updates.
Episode 2: Major engine updates for new environs, added at least 3 enemy types, and once again not advertised as a full game.
Team Fortress 2: To be fair, I don't think anyone here is gonna say TF2 is just a repeat of TFC. Moving on...
Portal: Completely new idea.
Left 4 Dead: Completely new idea.
Left 4 Dead 2: Content update. Advertised as full game.
Yes, it's a MAJOR content update, but there's no upgrade to any of the underlying ideas. No graphical overhaul, and it's being treated as a full game. And I guess that's my complaint, if it makes sense. (I know many people don't feel the same way)
