fsanch, I'm gonna grant you everything you said because people are raging.
I'm disappointed at L4D2, but I'm even more disappointed to see any forum descend into rageflame.

That said, the reason I'm against L4D2 is simple. Yes, it's a lot of new content, but there's no new core mechanic. Looking at every game Valve has made, there was a strong reason for making a new game as opposed to an update.

Half-Life 2: Gravity gun.
Counter-Strike: Source: CS gameplay is solid but graphics are out of date. Added maps, too
DOD:S : Valve wanted to rebalance DOD, but couldn't overhaul the mechanics of a multiplayer game without pissing off professional leagues. Overhauled graphics too with some new tech.
Episode 1: It's not a full game, so it wasn't advertised as one. Added some new mechanics and enemies, as well as new content and use of graphical engine updates.
Episode 2: Major engine updates for new environs, added at least 3 enemy types, and once again not advertised as a full game.
Team Fortress 2: To be fair, I don't think anyone here is gonna say TF2 is just a repeat of TFC. Moving on...
Portal: Completely new idea.
Left 4 Dead: Completely new idea.
Left 4 Dead 2: Content update. Advertised as full game.

Yes, it's a MAJOR content update, but there's no upgrade to any of the underlying ideas. No graphical overhaul, and it's being treated as a full game. And I guess that's my complaint, if it makes sense. (I know many people don't feel the same way)

I would probably place money on the founder of this boycott is some ten-year old who's mom spoils him that sucked really bad at the first one and is scared that he'll be even worse at the second one (alright, I'm making a bet right now, 50 of whatever money type you use or prefer that the founder of this group will buy, play, and then be an achievement whore with L4D2)
Well, insults aside, I was curious, so...

Of the three Administrators of the group, only one of them has any significant L4D playtime (69 hours [http://steamcommunity.com/id/amalik/stats/L4D], and only 48 minutes in the past 2 weeks). The other two clock in at 14 hours [http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197984519218/stats/L4D] and a head-scratching 3 hours [http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197984692667/stats/L4D], respectively.

I could totally be reading Steam stats the wrong way, maybe there are alts on Steam, but take that how you will.

Without knowing any details, the assumption that there will be no major overhaul to mechanics, which I think is the heart of the game moreso than graphics or ideas, is premature. Time will tell, though, I agree, and I am thankful for your points.

Actually, I'd say the lack of playtime is consistent. They say that the original is unfinished and in very dire need of polish and more content, which is exactly why they're not playing it.

Hmm, I love how people have realised that they don't have to buy the game. Gah, I hate stupid people.

Well, at least we know those guys who spend 89% of their time on L4D and boycott L4D2 will be gone from it and people dont have to play 24/7 to be able to keep up with how freakishly good they are at it. That doesnt really make sense but yeah.

Someone should start a NO NOL4D2 BOYCOTT group.

(Incase I phrased that wrong, that means a boycott for NOL4D2 BOYCOTT group.)

But seriously, these morons have serious problems. Everything takes TIME. The visual might change. (And who doesn't like day anyways?...Don't answer that)

Idiots. Actual idiots.
Most of that manifesto is either a) untrue or b) negative bullshit.

If they dont like it, THEN DONT BLOODY PLAY IT.

EDIT: Do they not realise that L4D1 was just a test, that valve weren't particularly pleased with?

Screw them, i'll be enjoying the sequel while they moan.

AMEN, sir. It seems a new type of Horde boss has appeared for Valve: The Rosa Parks. That's right, this horrific boss will sit in the middle of your path and boycott your journey to the rescue zone. What a terror.

What are you talking about? It only makes sense to make enough noise that they're heard, just as long as they don't annoy people. (and I agree, it's gone beyond that point)
Valve wants to know these things. They want to know where people die in their TF2 maps. They want to know what classes are more popular. They want to know how often somebody in L4D disconnects early, abandoning his friends. But the one statistic that EVERY company cares about is sales. If they can tell those before a game's release, then it's a godsend! So that's why the group is made; at the least, to show in simple numbers how many people aren't getting it, and just putting in simple words their reasons for it.

I will say though, that I strongly disagree with the group description's attempts to "convince others to join the boycott."

They all need fucking jobs.

Chek Faliszek said on the RPS podcast that they will continue to support L4d.

Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered
Idiots, Valve released the goddam survival pack and hundreds of tweaks.

Jobless Pricks.

problem is that they're working on L4D2, not Episode 3!!! fair enough that they do make a sequel, but not so quickly... I'd appreciate it if they made an effort to support their other franchises as well.
A company the size of valve will be working on about 4 projects at any one time.

Seriously?

This is so ludicrous that it sounds like some kind of late April Fools Joke. People are seriously THAT against the making of this game? I am genuinely shocked that people would go this far against the game.

the music can probably be turned off like most games also I like that there are some day light levels it makes sense if i am in a zombie apocalypse I will travel in the day light. Plus a lot of survival horror games rely to heavily on the fact that it is dark to get it's scares.

I'm not surprised. This is not the first time anyone "got organized" to boycott a game. The most notable boycott was Spore, which featured SecuROM that "forced" players to reauthenticate the offline game online every ten days. Everyone got their bittorrent downloader up and downloaded a "cracked" version of the game to the gamer's disgust to their new system. Although Spore still sold more than a million copies, EA gave in to the boycotters demands by removing the ten day reauthentication restriction, a sign that EA is affected by the boycott. However, the SecuROM is still there and many of its less blockbuster titles were affected and made common knowledge that SecuROM = Evil. Not only EA was affected, but also Rockstar by releasing GTAIV with SecuROM + Bugs and Glitches. Combining with inferior programming and a Draconian DRM makes GTAIV for PC the biggest flop in a critically acclaimed game.

Are these the same people who didn't want rainbows in Diablo 3? Yeah, I thought so.

I would say It's a bit too early to boycott Left 4 Dead 2 but I hated the first Left 4 Dead, and will only consider buying the 2nd Left 4 Dead if major changes are made by valve.

I'm thinking, if ANYONE else other than Valve had done this, then there'd be no problem. Releasing a sequel a year after its predecessor is common practice, to call it 'un-Valve like' as a criticism is just plain idiotic.

There's not much point arguing about it anyway. Valve haven't told us enough about L4D2 for us to complain about it yet. And, its been announced that L4D1 will still be getting content. So, if you don't like the idea of L4D2, then play L4D1 with the new content that will undoubtedly be coming, and boycott L4D2. If you're NOT an idiot, feel free to join me on L4D2 when it's released.
