Hm.

A few thousand people refusing to buy the game? I can almost hear Valve admins laughing. If anything, they will release some thrown together add-on content to L4D to appease a chunk of the whiny horde, then still release L4D2.

This protest will not make an iota of difference to the success of the game.

Okay... MAYBE an iota or two. Certainly not enough to make a sizeable impact, though. Does anyone else get a little irritated at the audacity of gamers when they piss and moan about their precious digital existence not being good enough? Granted, it is the job of devs to please the masses, as it's how money is made. Granted, if Valve promised new content, they should have delivered. The point still stands however that unless this little protest gets some massive support from many many more fans or gets backed by a development team or SOME faction inside Valve, it's going to fall flat on its face and L4D2 will trample it in a deluge of non-whiny fans and newcomers attracted to the game.

All in all, shame on NOL4D2. Grow up and stop taking a game so seriously. On the flip side, thank you for protesting. This way I don't have to deal with as many yammering chimps spouting racial slurs in between every other word when I'm playing Left 4 Dead 2.

What they could do is, NOT BUY L4D2!!! I will buy it, just cause of how awesome the first one was, and the improvements will just make it BETTER! But, I won't argue with them, if they don't want to enjoy this awesomeness of it they can I will though.

You do realize that's what boycotting is?

Considering my experiences, I personally think that this boycott group is underinformed. Screw boycotting L4D. Boycott Steam and Valve, period, until they get their act together in a very tangible way, like the number of refunds given. That would make sense. This kind of specific boycotting is like saying, "oh, I won't give you anymore money for this, but I will for all your other games".

Learn to run a campaign, amateurs.
Boycotting steam would be nice. I would love to boycott steam but I still like playing TF2 on the occasion. Though really what is with its constant updates? Its not like they are making it run any better.

Wow. Never did I dream of the day that the "They made it brighter, now it's RUINED FOREVER" argument would be used on a game other than Diablo 3.

Most of the people who are boycotting it will most likely buy it upon release.
Pretty much. They'll piss and moan up until release day then simply cave and buy it so they can feel superior for having played it since release day.

This whole boycott group is a bunch of tards
L4D1 was great and more L4D is even better, new characters, new scene, what are these people not welcoming some new stuff to a great game.
Valve is great and why would they let us down, these people will probably base their opinion off other tards who know nothing.
I will but L4D2 right on release day and those dipsh*ts can suck it

?Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered

They released a whole new game mode with 16 levels, and 2 versus campaigns as well as gameplay improvements and fixes. I'd like to see something where any specific promises were made that have yet to be delivered on. The SDK and team matchmaking are still coming out.

?Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release

Valve developers get to choose what projects they work on, and the L4D team after the game came out began descussing all of the ideas and things they wish they could have added to the game. After awhile it became apparant that what they wanted to do was leading them to a whole new project rather than simple DLC so they chose to work on L4D2. They intend to continue supporting L4D1.

?The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games

New survivors, new campaigns, new weapons, new zombies, new special infected, new AI director, new gameplay elements... Yeah nearly identical. If they include the original 4 campaigns in this game then it may very well reduce the community for the original game as they move on to the new one, but this can hardly be considered a significant problem.

?The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes

Valve is well known for taking their sweet time to make sure a game is done right before releasing it. If they didn't think they could finish the game by the release date they wouldn't announce it.

?The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far

So this complaint is basically that the unfinished game looks unfinished... Well it must obviously suck then.

?L4D2 is too colourful to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic

We've seen one level meant to showcase one of the major new gameplay elements. It is jarring to see at first admittedly, but I am looking forward to playing it. The other campaigns I believe are all at night so your precious color scheme will be fine.

?The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome

This is an asthetic judgement that really ought not be here.

?L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before

Who cares? Those of us who aren't little crybabies who decided to boycott a really great game will be playing L4D2.

?The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release

Valve takes too long to release new games and they get flak. They decide to release something new fairly quickly, and they get flak. I guess they can't win. Valve has indicated they will continue to support L4D1 for a good while yet. Only a few particularly whiney gamers have lost faith. Most of us are stoked.

Then they will praise Valve for making such a great game. They are mad because Valve is not giving them what they want.

Didn't someone once say...

Fans are clingy complaining dipshits who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make and the moment you shut out their shrill tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it.
Whoever he was, he was right :p

Heh, they can try to boycott the game all they want, all it means is that I'm forced to hear fewer complainey fanboy voices when I buy and play L4D2 myself.

The reason I refuse to give any sort of credibiilty to the L4D2 boycotters is because most of them are acting like whiny entitled dipshits who think companies never change plans and never do things anything but 100% perfectly. Valve isn't perfect, and frankly as a developer I should be pissed that they didn't give us the L4D1 SDK, but I'm not. I'm perfectly fine with them making a sequel on time for once.

Valve owes us nothing and I don't feel like I have to be given anything by them other than a good gaming experience, of which I have consistently had from them, minor problems aside.

You know, for all the rants, rages, and long winded posts one could make on the sheer idiocy of this 'group boycott', those 3 simple words say it all.

This is pathetic.

That thinking is both scary and hypocritical of you.

So, you say that "VALVe is great, why would they let us down" and assume that L4D2 will be awesome yet brush off the "tards" complaining because they "know nothing" when pretty much nobody knows too much about the game yet.

This is pretty much exactly why I want VALVe to be knocked down a peg or two, everyone automatically assumes that VALVe will make a great game and take whatever crap they throw at them (not saying this is crap, but still). Maybe that thinking is warranted to some extent, but it's always "VALVe IS GOD AND MUST NOT BE QUESTIONED!" with many people brushing anyone who criticizes VALVe as a pagan or something.

VALVe is a great company, no doubt about that, they have an amazing track record of games. But it just annoys me when people see a VALVe logo and just go with it without even thinking about what it is. They're like the PC version of Nintendo in some cases.
