Statutory rape is a dumb law
(don't misread that)
Rape should be illegal no matter what
in fact rapists should be shot on site
but consensual sex shouldn't have some arbitrary number attached to it.
yes, 18 for sex is just as arbitrary as 16 for driving and 21 for drinking.
or at least make the arbitrary number a little less arbitrary, like 13, that's when everyone's hormones turn on
and I'm still talking about consensual sex not some 40 year old who lures kids into his van with the promise of candy.
I just mean 2 people who say "I love you" "I love you too" "let's do it" or "you're hot" "you're also hot" "let's do it"
there's no reason to put an age on that.
A 16 year old girl and a 22 year old guy?
Gross.
But the thing is that we all know that these guys that go for the younger girls very often just have sex with them and leave.
Why? Because most of them are assholes.
So yeah laws exist for a reason and this would be like saying that stealing is immoral, then comming with the arguement that "stealing is right if your poor".
Really you should think how guys think, they will say "I love you" just to have sex with you.
good point. but think about this
if it was legal for that 22 year old to sleep with that 16 year old he could pretend to be nice to her until she puts out then dump her
instead of him rapping her on the street and hoping she didn't get a good look at his face
it's better for both of them.
besides legal people already do that to other legal people
and I also came up with a better solution if you care
amend the statutory rape law so if the minor says they gave consent all charges are dropped.
when you turned 18 were you any more mature than when you were 17?
I doubt it.
It's just an arbitrary law "you can't have sex until you can buy cigarettes"
I've never met an 18 year old who was more mature, or better able to make decisions than a 17 year old.
so why put the line there?
