Oh of course it's all FarmVille's fault. Taking responsibility for your own actions? Inconceivable. /sarcasm.

Which is obviously no excuse; shaking a baby because you're angry is completely beyond the pale no matter what the circumstances and I certainly hope that Tobias' time in prison is a long and horrific experience that comes to a brutal end in the back corner of the laundry room.
Yeah, that's about all that needs to be said here.

The fact she's trying to come up with excuses and is not going insane from grief means that the horrific deed does not matter to the person in question.

There should be a license required to be a parent.

You know, this should shock me. However, after reading about the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, nothing shocks me any more. It's a sad case, but hardly shocking. The sad thing is, this sort of thing goes on all the time, all over the world. It has always happened. You get degenerates and dead-beats who simply don't care about their children all that much and cause hurt and misery to their kids. Just as you had people in the 1800's who would sell their children into forced labour for a pittance, you've got these degenerates here in the 21st Century.

Yes it's sad to hear cases like this. But take heart that there are probably LESS cases like this than there were 100 years ago. It's just that thanks to the media, you hear about all the cases, while 100 years ago, you didn't. This has led to the PERCEPTION that crime is rising, when it is, in general, going down.

I hate people like this, they sully the good name of video games for their own stupid mistakes. Yeah people get pissed off when things don't go well, I know I do, but I don't go next door and shaken the neighbor baby to death. A punching bag is a much better outlets, it's a good stress reliever, good exercise, and you're NOT killing babies.

What I'm boiling down to saying it, this ***** need to be executed on two charges: one killing a baby, two thinking a video game is the one that shook her baby to death.

P.S. On the off chance this case goes though, I'm moving to Canada before someone sues me for beating them online and punching a cat to death.

Not a damn one of you understands psychology...Properly anyway.
What we have here is poor impulse control mixed with emotional imbalance. The idea that someone would do something like this is disturbing to anyone of sound mind. But there's the key word, SOUND. This woman is very obviously disturbed, and most likely has some form of mental disorder. While I know it can be hard to control ones emotions, especially in a case such as this, where there are some very tragic circumstances to deal with. But, I believe that no one has the right to condemn his fellow man, and that we must look for solutions rather than catharsis.
Many of you would be the first to suggest we burn this woman, but if given the opportunity to to in real life, you would differ.
Also:
As comfortable you feel with the black and white, Saturday morning cartoon, "that's what they all say" fantasy that you've created for yourselves. But let's try to be mature, and not talk about clearly ill human beings like they're just inhuman hell spawn without families to consider. We, the mentally sound, must take the moral high ground.
It is the ONLY responsible choice.
I don't think there's any evidence that this woman is mentally disturbed. If she was, that is a mitigating factor, but from what I have read, there doesn't appear to be any evidence that she did.

Some people are simply bad. Hitler wasn't crazy (well, not to start with anyway, towards the end of the war he did go a little loopy) and was one of the most evil people in the world. Stalin wasn't crazy - paranoid, certainly, but he knew what he was doing. I believe, so far based on what I have read, that this woman knew what she was doing. Is she totally, completely evil? Well, no. I don't believe anyone is 100% evil, although there are some people who are 99% evil. I think this woman is easily angered, irritable, and lacking in empathy. If she was cognizant enough to play FarmVille, she was clearly cognizant enough to know that she was hurting her child. She just didn't care. She might not have purposefully intended to kill her child, but she clearly intended to inflict pain in order to make the child quiet, and in the process of doing so, killed her child. That's manslaughter at the very least, and she should be punished for it.

If it turns out that she is mentally disturbed, then I will gladly retract my judgement of this lady. But so far I haven't seen anything to suggest that she was.

Being evil doesn't not imply mental illness. I watched the trial of "Comrade" Duch, the second in command of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, who went on trial recently. He was personally responsible for some of the most sadistic acts of torture ever recorded. And when questioned on the stand, he was as lucid and in command of his faculties as you or I. He simply wanted power and enjoyed making people suffer.

I'm not saying this woman is anything like Duch, but what I am saying is that if you examine human history, you would know that there are bad people out there. People who just don't care about others, people who don't consider the consequences of their actions, people who are just plain mean. And I think this woman is one of those mean spirited people who simply cannot empathize with others. As a result, she should be put in jail for her crime, and she should be prevented from ever taking care of children again. If she has another child, I recommend that it be removed from her care immediately.

Jesus...really? REALLY? She's actually blaming Farmville? For killing her FUCKING infant child?

There really is nothing she can do now. Locker her up, throw away the key. She really needs to think about what she's done. Once she realizes the repercussions of her actions, then...

I don't know anymore.

As for punishment, this woman should not be executed. Her crime is clearly manslaughter and infanticide, not murder. Murder requires intent. Yes, intent matters very much. She shook her baby because she was angry and she wanted her baby to be quiet. It was a cruel act, an irresponsible act, and an act that led to her baby's death, and she should be held responsible, but she did not have the INTENT to murder. If she had jammed a fork in her baby's throat, then that would be murder. If she had brutally bashed her baby on the head with a stick, that would have been murder. Shaking is not murder. It is intent to cause harm and it is abuse and it is sickening, but it is not murder. There is a difference, if you examine your legal textbooks. I'm not a lawyer, but I did take a law course in high school (yes, we have law subjects in Australian high schools).

I believe that in the US, intent needs to be proven for a murder charge to be filed. So I strongly doubt this woman will be charged with murder. Therefore, she does not deserve to be executed, but she does deserve to be placed in jail for a lengthy period, and she should never be allowed to care for a child ever again. I would say she should get 10 years imprisonment without parole.

Hang on, I need to water my crops.

Okay, I'm done... oh my god, hang on I forgot those peas!

I'm confused. She could get up for a cigarette but not her baby? That's just wrong, no matter how you swing it. Looking at her photo, she was doing something more than cigarettes.

Yet another person blaming games (or other media, as has happened before) for their poor judgement and morals. Honestly, I don't know what's more messed up, the possibility that she's aware of what she's done and is just trying to lessen her punishment by blaming farmville, or the possibility of her excuse being to herself as much as anyone else.
