I forgot the name but the map in MW2 that takes place in a South American village and there's a canal going through the middle, be prepared to get sniped at every possible angle from every person on the enemy team the second you come out of hiding.
I believe you are talking about Underpass?
I know it isn't that mad, but for the record that map sucks too. I looked it up and it's called Rundown.

I think it's safer to just flat out say that CTF sucks, no matter what game we are playing.

OT: There's a good number of reasons that nobody plays Hydro in TF2 anymore.

Thrashball from Gears of War 3. It started out ok, but it soon became stupidly overplayed and now everyone does pretty much the same thing. Camp with sawed offs around the concession stand. The map used to be fun but now it is a camper's paradise.

Rust in Modern Warfare 2

Worst map ever
THIS.

*Spawn* knifed instantly.
*Spawn* noob tubed across the map.
*Spawn* sniped by the douche on top of the tower.
*Spawn* Throw semtex in random location for free double kill, enemy respawns 5 feet behind you and knifes you.

I'd also like to nominate every single map in Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 (pre-DLC, haven't bought those because Black Ops/MW3 blows).

Also, rain maps in any Call of Duty game. Soundwhoring is a huge part of high-level play, and you can't hear fuck-all on Storm, Downpour, or Underpass.

Scrapyard in MW2. Terrible.
Edit: forgot about Dome in MW3. Horrid. Dome in WaW, on the other hand... probably one of my favorite maps.

Btw Nuketown is amazing. I never had much trouble with grenades. Love that they're bringing it back in BO2.

What OP said: Nuketown was a horrible, horrible, horrible map. Its tiny -- 12 people in that space simply doesn't work, however unlike Shipment or Rust from MW and MW2, it is used as a serious map across most game modes -- even Search and Destroy (which is lunacy on a map where people die so quickly and utterly randomly), and to top it off, it seems to be everyone else's favourite map! What the absolute fuck?
In terms of tactics Nuketown highlights all the things that annoy me most in CoD and seems designed to counter-act my own preferred tactics: despite its small size, the Assault rifle is still king because most of the map is medium-length lines of sight with BASICALLY NO COVER, grenade spam is rife because there is BASICALLY NO COVER, once someone gets a killstreak, even if you have Ghost, you are fucked because there is BASICALLY NO COVER, and you can never really move around because the map is tiny.

I think that map alone would've been enough to make me hate Black Ops, but heh, the rest of the game was so shoddy and half-assed in its aesthetic, writing, graphics, gameplay and literally everything else that it barely even stood out.

--

Nobody has said it yet (that I've seen), but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody put Downpour from CoD4 as their worst map: everyone seems to hate that map except me. Its actually my favourite multiplayer map of all time in terms of gameplay because there is room for every single strategy, be it running and gunning, shotgun/smg camping, sniping or a more generic assault rifle build. There is room for the guy with the silenced MP5 and the guy lobbing noobtubes both.

2fort in TF2. A map that was supposed to be a nostalgia tie-in to the classic Team Fortress, and it absolutely sucks. The map was designed with TFC mechanics in mind and was hastily painted over with TF2 decals, meaning that it was not even made with TF2 tactics in mind. Constant narrow hallways, too many chokepoints to count, health and ammo is few, Sniper warfare, Sentries sitting right in front of spawn that can win entire games because of the awful placement of the intel, EVERYTHING is wrong with that map.

Another is Turbine, a map that pretty much is one big open room and a few symmetrical tunnel and spawn systems connecting to it. If one team take the big room, there is almost a certain chance that they will camp the other team's spawn, if they first don't run a constant Scout cap on it. Engineers spend all of the round putting a Sentry near the intel and getting one kill, no class is useful except for Gunslinger Engineers, Scouts, and Heavies with Medics camped on them, little room for the mobility of Rocket or Sticky Jumping, tight chokepoints to the intel. The unofficial map fix, which makes the chokepoints less restrictive, is so much better than the vanilla Turbine.

And Granary, which isn't so bad of a map, except it has murder-inducingly long respawn times, and most maps will end in steamroll or backcap.

Any and every map made by CliffyB for the Unreal series.

Seriously, they were almost always the most uninspired, uncreative, and poorly designed maps that series ever had.

And then Epic put him in charge as design lead. Da fuq Epic?

And Overgrown from CoD4 sucks, because EVERYBODY SNIPED.
But it was easy to counter their snipers: there were ways across the map that would totally avoid the eyes of the snipers (assuming they were in any of the logical sniper positions for the map). So long as it is easy enough to counter, a sniper map is a fine thing to have.

The worst offender of being a true sniper-only map in CoD4 imo was Bloc; there was just nothing else to do if the enemy's snipers had a fucking clue and had claymored up their building properly.
From MW2, Wasteland was obviously the worst in this regard; that map was simply grim for anyone not sporting an Intervention FMJ.

Twisted Treeline in LoL.
The only viable tactic on that map is to gank, gank, gank and gank... Thats more stressing than fun.

Noshahr Canals. Oh, what, the russians have their tank at the shoreline and control all the capture points, and can fire at the US spawn, repeatedly killing their boats and helos with homing shells before they can come within a mile of shore.

BALANCED!

Worse maps have been mentioned already, but Halo's Chiron TL-34 [http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Chiron_TL-34] deserves some recognition for its raw, unadulterated awfulness.

I hate roofers in Revelations as well. I'll stalk my target for about a minute and a half and be ready to get an 800+ points kill and then the next thing I know I have an Ottoman Jester on top of me, a sword in my throat, and a message on the screen that says "some random douchebag killed you for 100 points". If I get somebody sprinting around on the rooftops as a target, I'll kill a civilian. My time does not need to be wasted because xXxQuIkSsSsCoPz69420xXx has an irrational fear of his feet touching the same ground as the mere commoners.

My absolute favorite thing in the world is when I get far more points yet less kills than somebody who stuck to the rooftops. I once had about 5500 points with 6 kills when somebody else had 17 kills for a total of about 2100 points. I could feel his envy.

Anyways, I have a few maps I hate in just about every multiplayer game I play. I share GeneralTwinkle's dislike of Mt. Saint-Michel and I'm also not very fond of Souk. I don't seem to ever get many kills when I play there, typically averaging about 3-5. It's kind of annoying.

As far as Call of Duty is concerned, I absolutely hate WMD and Crisis from Black Ops, Wasteland from Modern Warfare 2, and Makin from World at War. Not sure what it is about them, but I can't stand them.

I guess I would have to say pick any Battlefield map and it will due. Every single one I played seems specifically designed to hamper one side. This makes the games horribly unbalanced and really it stops being fun.

Why the hell do you have to pick my favourite maps. Rust was so much fun and probably one of the best maps in MW2. It was also hilarious when you called in an AC130 or chopper gunner on it.
I loved Rust because it was basically just an insane clusterfuck. Though granted if your more of a competitive gamer who cares about his/her kill ratio I can understand why one would hate this map. The fact that its so small means that if there is one guy in front of you then there are going to three guys behind you getting ready to cap your unsuspecting ass. I love using the chopper or AC130 on that level though granted its the opposite if you are on the receiving end. Once tried to call a truce when an AC130 showed up but that obviously didn't work out.

While I do have certain hatred Interchange in MW3, I'd probably have to go with MW2's Rust. If you want to have a bullshit clusterfuck just vote for that map. Also 2Fort in TF2 for the 360. If you got an asshole for host you could bet that your team was going to get spawn camped until either you quit or they got bored.

EDIT: Almost forgot Highrise in MW2.(I think that's what it's called anyway) It was always bullshit when a couple of guys from the enemy team would somehow manage to sneak their asses onto the roof and snip their bastard heads off at your team's expense. Good luck managing to counter that giant load of bullshit.

Speaking of bad maps, anyone remember a popular map design for quake (most likely 3) that looked horrible in theory but was actually pretty good?

I remember it was used in a lot of tutorials for map design, it was basically two sides separated by water and three bridges connecting them (very simple). One modder made one of the best maps I had ever seen based on that concept, it looked like a parking lot (concrete ground and pillars) and had an inaccessible room with glass panels on one side (as if it were a place from where scientists would watch the fight and take notes or something) and it looked like something out of Half-Life.

That map concept had a pretty rememberable name... Anyway, I don't remember it but I vote that for the worst map ever.

So bad that it was good, and I loved it.

Also, many maps in Combat Arms. Some are awfully unbalanced. GRRR.

The entire map is based on not taking the game seriously, a concept Call of Duty should look into more.
CoD was supposed to be taken seriously? I've been doing it wrong...

Considering the suicidal RC cars, the use of tomahawks in modern combat, nuking an area just to kill 10 guys, etc I don't think it's easy to take it seriously.

The first part of Strike at Karkand from Battlefield 2 was absolutely awful. Grenade spam up the ass every time it was played.
You can flank it from both sides if you're in a squad, it works in Vehicles or in No-Vehicles.

I think shipment was it's name from CoD4, the one with the long cargo ship. The one where you'll do worse playing normally than by choosing the 3x frag perk and chucking grenades down towards the other side of the ship so everyone became their own improvised mortar launcher.

At least with stuff like Nuketown or similar very tiny maps that craziness could be spawn killing for 5 minutes one game or awesome mayhem the next. Shipment was never fun. Ever.

Chiron TL-34, aka the teleporter map from Halo 1, aka "The Janitor's Closet" from RvB.

I don't much care for multiplayer games as it is, and that one map may have been what pushed casual interest into near-hatred.
