Trolling developers? Why doesn't he just post a picture of him pissing over a 360 and get it over with.

I blame Halo for XBL being more juvenile but really there aren't as many 12-year olds doing annoying stuff as people say
you could basically blame halo for xbl

also in response to the whole, xbox is childish thing

I agree that the vocal minority can be a quite immature, homophobic, and all sorts of other things that people tend to become when given anonymity and an audience.

but i'd like to believe the silent majority are a little more mature, or broke their headsets.

I'd also like to believe im part of the "good" mic users

I am guilty of cursing a lot while on XBL, but that's mostly just random cursing not directed at anyone. I found the player community on TF2 for the 360 to be much better than most games for that system. I always was cracking jokes about the other team with the others on mine. And most of the other players were in their late teens to early twenties.

And when someone is an asshole, I mute them. Simple as that.

Well I don't own any FPS's for the X-box but the games I do own with multi-player options I've noticed most game and no offense, 90% of the the people I talk to are Americans who seem to think Scotland is located near Africa and that I am a moronic derogitory name for a black person, and that my mother was of loose morales, I seem to have to say I agree. But that maybe less the x-box and more bad luck.

He might be right, I haven't seen any PS3 games played online, but I won't hesitate to point out all the myriad complaints of children on Home. Such as this. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/97538-Female-Gamer-Sexually-Assaulted-While-Playing-PS3]

Maybe not me or other escapists, but I won't argue with that statement, there are a lot of immature or simply young people on xbox live, and I suppose it's down to them for this opinion.

I'll help random people and try and use team work when I feel the need to plug in my mic, I don't think one service is worse than the other when it comes to the community but I've never played a shooter on the PSN so I can't be a true judge.

PSN. It's serious business.

Thats because PSN users all don't have a mic, are foreign, or have a mic and not speaking.

Any PSN user i've heard tends to be worse than xbox live players when i mention i have both consoles.

I think its just PR talk but it was uncalled for you see my brother bought the ps3 and i bought the 360 and he got into the mag beta my friends i have never been called a ****** or a fag so much in my entire life, and being black, shit sucked, but people only say its childish cause of all those youtube videos which was only caused by 3 things people nowadays don't know how to deal with there children, the xbox is cheaper then the ps3, most of the games on xbox live support voice chat which was a good and bad move on Microsoft's part.

I truly believe it has to do with the game and not the system. When I played Rainbow Six Vegas online I would still find asshats but it was more like 1 in every 100 people (the community wasn't the biggest when I played, wish I could play again some time as a matter of fact) where as if you put Halo 3, COD4, MW2 on say... a microwave, you'd still find just as many people acting like idiots than if you'd been on XBOX live. I have found just as many jerks playing Killzone 2, Resistance, and Uncharted 2 as I would if they were on XBOX.

also am I the only one who thinks that we might be taking the console wars a bit too seriously in this topic?

saying its juvenile is abit stupid, if he means its fun then i agree, but id rather use something that has simplicity than a complicated techno spasm, seen my mate use PSN i was like how the hell you know where things are o_O

Wow, I didn't expect the developer of a PS3 exclusive to come out and say something like that!
Exactly this. It's almost as funny when Microsoft comes out and says that Project Natal is going to be better then the Wii, and expect everyone to take their word as divine mandate.

PS3 mics, aren't cheap. $60 for a bluetooth head set? Maybe $40?
You don't need a Bluetooth headset, one of these USB mics for $15 should be enough

Only idiots buy USB mics, when you got a Blue tooth capable system.
You know, wireless all the way?
Cheaper option that works just as well. Seems pretty smart to me.

Wireless is a good option but so is saving $45. It's not like you are going to be jumping around the room or anything, wired can be simpler and clearer. Also with a mic rather than Bluetooth Headset you can wear headphones if you don't want to wake your neighbours/house-mates from the noise of your tv's speakers.

If by " "more juvenile" he actually meant more online supported games, a larger player base and an overall more stable and superior network, then yes, I agree 100%...
What tha... huh?

You do realise that MAG has a TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX player cap? With Dedicated servers? And SO many other PS3 exclusive games have low-lag dedicated servers like Warhawk as well as Resistance FoM and R2. Resistance 2 had a freaking 64 player cap on huge low lag maps as well as eight player cooperative playthrough way back in early 2008 and it's still going strong.

What the hell are you talking about "less online support" or "more stable and superior". I mean big titles like Halo 3 have a player cap of only 16. The pay-wall for XBL blocks out the majority of XBox 360 owners from online multiplayer, encouraging a huge proportion to never go online. Also it prevents any game adding casual online access like with Demon's Souls there there is subtle but significant interaction between all the players around the world.

I think the lack of bundled mics is good, acts like an idiot barrier. You'd only go to the trouble of getting a USB mic if you really wanted to contribute something constructive, the same applies for PC gaming as well. The bundled 360 mic is just annoying, especially if you play with headphones and I wish I could buy a better quality mic.
Warhawk...? What's that, never heard of it...

Yes, the player cap in MAG is impressive, but I still think that Live is the better service of the two... Xbox and PSN have about the same number of subscribers last I checked, ergo Sony's free service is just comparable to Xbox Live with it's fees... What does that tell you?

Also, there are a number of games on Xbox that have dedicated servers as well... Left 4 Dead is the first that comes to mind, but I know that there are others...

EDIT: Also want to remind people here that Xbox Live costs less than $5 a month... If you're gonna pay hundreds of dollars for a console & games, you should be able to easily afford the fees for online service.
Have you even TRIED PS3's online? I own both consoles and have tried both and I can state with confidence that XBL is terrible in comparison to PSN while PSN is remarkably close to PC... which I consider the best BTW.

Saying XBL is only $5 per month is a fallacious reductionist argument. You can't just arbitrarily divide the cost of something by smaller units of time till you get an insignificant number. That's like saying a Ferrari isn't expensive if you pay $10 per day... for the rest of your life.

I mean would you pay me $5 per month? Honestly, I can arrange this through pay pal. After all, it is an "insignificant" amount of money. Of course not. The XBL Gold Membership fee is a significant cost that doesn't even go to fund the overwhelming minority of 360 games that have dedicated server support like L4D. It goes directly into Microsoft's bank account.

The bottom line is you are paying for a service which my all technical benchmarks is worse than the free alternative! It's not like the PS3 is significantly more expensive any more and you don't have to shell out on a load of expensive proprietary peripherals as you do with 360.

But the fact that Microsoft claim they are so big on online gaming yet for their two biggest franchises, Halo and Gears of War, they don't bother with dedicated servers at all!?!? It just shows where their priorities really are.

here we go again with dedicated servers, seriously, they are not needed for online gaming at all their are other alternatives.

and yeh Sony isn't big on online gaming are they? *looks up at news about MAG* hmmmmm...

im not a hater to either console, but id rather pay for my membership and know that what im paying for is worth it, than having something free tbh, cause anything thats free i see as not been as good as what you pay for (might not be Sonys case but you get my point)

God shut up. Its open beta, only the pros really want to play beta. As soon as you put it out on the main stream out come all the 13 year old whinners and dickheads. Same on every platform and every game. Only the really hard core try beta.
I'm going to go ahead and be really harsh here and go out on a limb and say you prefer the 360, and don't play on the PS3 much, if at all.
Am I correct?
Anyway, I've played online on both systems (betas and finished games Funk) and found that what the guy is saying isn't entirely innacurate, maybe it isn't the same setting, but some stereotypes got there for a reason, even if it is cruel.
[sub]For the mods, I said some, not all stereotypes, most stereotypes were made by dicks, but even 360 players characterise most people on xbox live as whiny complaining people.[/sub]
You want to know why all the stereotypes got there? No? Well who cares, i'm telling you anyway.
The loud-mouthed ones are the ones people remember. They're actually the minority, its just they kick and scream so much its all anyone can remember.

This is why i love PC gaming. I don't have to deal with the 13 year olds, because their mommy and daddy can't afford a new upgrade for the PC every day, so they buy a console to shut the little fuckers trap and not dealing with upgrades here and there. (But the 13 year olds still come out in Garry's Mod -_-)

The only difference between Xbox Live and PSN is that fewer PSN users have a mic.

I bet that if everyone who bought a PS3 got a mic for free there would be just as much swearing as on Xbox live.
Pretty much this. I got a PS3 and only about 2/5 people have a mic, and the ones that do are usually pretty good people because i guess the majority of them are over the age of 12. No insult to those under 12 here on the escapist but when you yell and scream because you died your shrill voice bugs the shit out of everyone.

Nope, dedicated servers DO matter. It's like saying "I don't need a car, I can just cycle everywhere"

For one, anything much beyond a 16 player cap is virtually impossible with user-hosted multiplayer and lag is a huge issue for everyone (especially with a crude matchmaking service) except the host who always has the lowest possible latency.

"id rather pay for my membership and know that what im paying for is worth it"

This just strikes me as a nasty case of cognitive dissonance, which in laymen's terms it's the condition of spending so much money/effort on something to the point of rationalising it to have more value than it actually does.

One thing you have to realise about XBL... just because Microsoft charges you to access it that doesn't mean the money you pay in any way has to be proportionally spent on the service.
