The guy isn't sueing for damages.

He changed the terms of the contract to maybe something like I agree to this contract if you pay me 500 billion American dollars. Failure to respond or terminate my service within the next week signifies you accept this ammended agreement.

Tada thas where he gets his 500 billion number from. Sueing doesn't automaticly mean suing for damages.

Lol....There is no fucking way a judge is going pick up this case and say" wow this is serious business let us proceed with it" the most likely thing they are going to do is Lock him up in a loony house.

It's sad... especially because I looked at the headline, and, without even clicking on it, thought, 'It's an American'. Oh, surprise, surprise. THIS is one of the reasons I hate some of the people who live in my country.

Hilarious, but only if he actually pulls it off...I so hope he does, my god that'd be hilarious!
Forcing microsoft into bankruptcy and depriving it's 89,000 employees of paying jobs is hilarious to you?
Never said I wasn't a jerk! =D

Need I point out that 500 billion dollars is a numerical economy value that does not exist with one group? Seriously. Nobody has 500 billion dollars.

I like it. But if he willingly admits he's just jerking the system, then it sort of hurts his case. Also, $500 bllion might be a little much.

I understand the guy is trying to make a point, but 500 billion dollars seems a little much. I doubt the guy will win.

And why go to court if you're not willing to print out your evidence for the judge? That just seems stupid to me.
I guess the 500$ billion is to make sure that it becomes news and that its talked about to raise awareness over the issue, what was the point of making a point if there were no witnesses?

If you, like nearly everyone on this thread so far, thought "He actually thinks he can win $500bn! What an idiot!" Then you are the idiot. Of course he's under no illusions that he can win. He's just making a point. And, point well made IMO.

He'll lose because it's frivolous. But he's correct that this is the same kind of thing that Microsoft and other companies do all the time. So if what he's doing is wrong, how come they get away with it all the time? Hopefully this will go some way to stopping them doing this in the future, rather than idiots thinking he's trying to get money.

Frankly, even if this insanity had any merit. You cannot simply mail documents and declare victory. It is required the defendant be served directly, in which case would mean an executive or someone within Microsoft's legal division, not some random employee.

I can't help but wonder, if he would've had a good chance of getting away with it, and getting the money, if he had asked for a smaller compensation, something like one million, which is not a lot of money to microsoft, but might be to him.
Then again, they'll probably do everything to win this case, even if he had asked for just 100$, just to make sure others wouldn't follow his example.
But maybe they'd settle out of court for a few 100.000, and a legal promise of him keeping his mouth shut, if he had asked for just a million.

Sorry. That's not how contracts work bud. You can't just whisper into someones ear "if you say 'what' you owe me 20 bucks"

The legal system is going to fuck you up

I may not be a legal expert, but doesn't this work in the end? If the court's strike him down for being unable to do that, then doesn't that mean that the companies are also in the wrong for future decisions? There have been tons of times where a court has overlooked someones wrong doing or actions because they have friends or such that have also done that thing, and would be in the wrong to. So in the end, if he wins, the company would get a taste of their own medicine. If he loses, then companies can't hassle users like that again.

But like I said, my legal may be off.

I hope Microsoft pay him the $500 Billion, but in Microsoft Points.

It would be so funny if they deposited 4 Quadrillion Microsoft Points, that's 40000000000000 non transferable Microsoft Points, into his account, then terminated his account as he requested.
OH MY GOD THAT IS BRILLIANT.

That would be fantastic. It really would be. I hope they do this. Leave his account active just long enough to see it, then terminate it! They'd just have to terminate his access to things like Zune, too, because you can use MS points on that as well.

... Could you even spend that many MS points in the XBL marketplace alone?
