I can't help but wonder, if he would've had a good chance of getting away with it, and getting the money, if he had asked for a smaller compensation, something like one million, which is not a lot of money to microsoft, but might be to him.
Then again, they'll probably do everything to win this case, even if he had asked for just 100$, just to make sure others wouldn't follow his example.
But maybe they'd settle out of court for a few 100.000, and a legal promise of him keeping his mouth shut, if he had asked for just a million.

Sorry. That's not how contracts work bud. You can't just whisper into someones ear "if you say 'what' you owe me 20 bucks"

The legal system is going to fuck you up

I may not be a legal expert, but doesn't this work in the end? If the court's strike him down for being unable to do that, then doesn't that mean that the companies are also in the wrong for future decisions? There have been tons of times where a court has overlooked someones wrong doing or actions because they have friends or such that have also done that thing, and would be in the wrong to. So in the end, if he wins, the company would get a taste of their own medicine. If he loses, then companies can't hassle users like that again.

But like I said, my legal may be off.

I hope Microsoft pay him the $500 Billion, but in Microsoft Points.

It would be so funny if they deposited 4 Quadrillion Microsoft Points, that's 40000000000000 non transferable Microsoft Points, into his account, then terminated his account as he requested.
OH MY GOD THAT IS BRILLIANT.

That would be fantastic. It really would be. I hope they do this. Leave his account active just long enough to see it, then terminate it! They'd just have to terminate his access to things like Zune, too, because you can use MS points on that as well.

... Could you even spend that many MS points in the XBL marketplace alone?

His case is actually sorta air tight. I think the guy is a total douchebag and should really stop making an ass of himself, but it isn't like you can say he is in error.

Go for 1 million, not everything the company owns.

This is one case where I find myself in the rare occasion of looking forward to seeing a corporation step on someone. Hard.
This guy is being frivolous and mistreating the civil court system to I don't even know what ends, and I hope whatever judge ends up in charge of this gives him the due result he deserves.

If this actually works, it'll be the customers who suffer. He could have made a point with way less money.
I have to wonder how much of this crap occurs before someone in congress or the courts decides that it is due time that TOA's and EULA's become legally binding for everyone. Then it will be a shitstorm on all our heads.

How is it airtight?

I don't care what the resolution to this will be, it's already hilarious.

I actually respect him more for coming clear that he's being dastardly than if he just stuck to the 'doing it for the little man' excuse.

The court won't recognize printing out a few pages will cause undue stress on his printer. Printers are made to print hundreds and hundreds of papers. Got a shitty printer? Go to a supplies store and add the bill to the damages if you're so confident.

He also admitted that he made sure the documents would be picked up by your standard employee which would not recognize the significance and get the forms to the legal department in time, in which the court would probably rule that he purposefully ensured that Microsoft would not have a plausible amount of time to respond.

Third, he gave them 24 hours to respond to a victory dispute (again sending it to a chump, not their legal department), which, for a big company like Microsoft, just may not be enough time to filter through the documents. It's like mailing out a form to the other side of the country (a minimum of 5 days to reach destination in Canada), and saying "If you don't respond to this within 24 hours of me writing it, YOU LOSE!"

Getting turned down from a job due to aspergers is actually viable depending on the job. Take a call center, where you talk on the phone all day, or a sales representative, where you need people skills to make a sale. If you're turned down for that job, the company is allowed to say "Unfortunately, he had asperger's, it displays heavily anti-social behaviour that does not fit well with the mandate of this position, it would be a bad business descision." which is true, and the decision is no longer "He's a freak" or "He's different" other than"He won't be able to do his job to our level of satisfaction"

Sorry, dude's got nothing

EDIT: Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Lawyer in court say "Sorry your honor, I wanted to be considerate to our printers, so I didn't print anything out"

EDIT 2: The court will also take into consideration the number of times Stebban has pulled stunts like this, which is alot according to the article. The Judge will likely look at this and say "You tried this shit X number of times this year. I'm sick of it, stop trying to screw people on technicalities"

Hm, I doubt Mr. Stebbins will get much from his antics. But I do think he is making a good point and maybe something good will come of this silliness. We can only hope.

Sounds kinda stupid, even if he does have a point.
Any good point he makes is immediately canceled by the 500 billion dollar asking fee.

If he really wanted to make a point he could just ask for a small amount of money like $100 or even no money at all.

As it stands now, I'm just marking this guy off as another greedy dickhead using the legal system to get rich quick.

Oh and he has Aspergers, I assume he assumes he can use that as a get out of jail free card right?
Yeah no, IT DOESN'T FREAKING WORK THAT WAY! Having Aspergers is not a justification for being an Asshole. God, I hate it when stuff like this happens. It only makes things worse for people with the syndrome who don't act like total dicks.

But, that's obviously not the focal point of this thread, the focal point is that this guy is just a greedy dick trying to screw an insane amount of money out of a large company. He'll be crushed underfoot in an actual legal battle, if it ever comes to that.
