A story that tries to be good but fails.

Don't get me wrong; most of the games I love have a story that can be told in under five sentences. But if a game focuses on its story and that story is bad, then that's the worst thing in the world for me.

In short, I think it's gameplay that can make a game, but story that can break it.

I hate when i have to play on the hardest difficulty to get trophies.or quicktime events..i just want to watch the video. I usually forget that the game likes to throw some events during videos and so i usually die because i was enjoying some Doritos, or i actually react fast enough from eating to press the buttons and then i feel like a champ.

time limit section / escort mission
I suck at playing under a time limit and most people I have to escort have the survival instinct of lemmings

Right now, I'd go with repetitiveness and lack of variety.

Dragon Age 2 being a prime example. I have to say that I did enjoy the game (and I don't think it deserves half of the criticism it gets), but whenever I entered "the cave" or "the warehouse", I began feeling deeply annoyed.

The same can be said about Max Payne. I picked it up during the Steam sale a while back and I'm rather disappointed. The story is nice, but I'm about 8 levels in and it's always the same kind of ruined buildings over and over again. Ugh.

I also have a long-standing hatred for quicktime events and bad camera.

Grinding kills it for me. I don't mean side quests, I mean going and doing something other than what you should be doing to get more XP, money, brownie points, whatever. Has put me off quite a few games.

Also, anime style graphics. They just don't do it for me, and are super off-putting. I don't like anime in it's regular form, don't see why I would like it in game form.

Bosses that are impossible without grinding. When you have completed all/most of the story (and nothing else) but the boss is still impossible... And many other things on this list, actually.

Edit: Oh yeah, I also Hate flammers in multiplayer. I don't mind trash talking here and there as long as it doesnt take away from the game.

I hate a game that provides a long-term punishment for failure, such as an rpg that docks XP when you die or a strategy game that kills characters permanently if they die on a level, especially if you don't have the option to easily go back and do it better.

Edit: Like Pokemon, where they dock HALF OF ALL YOUR MONEY should you ever lose a battle.

Unbreakable wooden doors or chain link fences. I got stuck in a game in which I had a fire men's ax yet after not being able to pick the lock to the door i could not chop it down with said ax and no one on the other side seemed to notice the super powered vampire slamming at the door enough to come out and investigate.

Fixed cameras - I absolutely hate fixed cameras in 3D games. Can't stand them. Even really good games have this problem - MGS2, Super Mario Galaxy - I hate it. Let me move the camera around the way I want to. MGS4 fixed this by allowing the player to (somewhat) move the camera around. Super Mario games (and I stress that I like these games), still have this flaw of taking the camera out of the player's hands. If it's in third person, AT LEAST let me swing the camera from left to right. Please.

Vehicle driving controls in Halo, Gears of War 2, and Borderlands. I don't understand why I have to look in a certain direction in order to proceed. I thought games like Grand Theft Auto made it perfectly clear that checking your surroundings while moving in a vehicle was a good way to know your environment and outsmart your enemies, but the former begs to differ. If you try to replicate this strategy, it will lead you pile-driving into your enemies or hurling off a cliff you were trying to check for.

Listen to me devs: THIS IS A BIG NO-NO!

Turn-based gameplay

Regarding the consecutive boss fight thing, I remember one where there were 3 in a row. Fortunately, you only had to beat the first one, the next one was a "supposed to lose fight", but if you actually did win, you got a bonus. After that though, there was a fight that you were REALLY supposed to lose, but I don't know if it was possible to win.
