Anime-esque graphics. Annoys the ever living shit out of me to the point where I simply can't play the game. It's also the biggest reason why I never played to the end of the only two Final Fantasy games I ever played.
Don't get me wrong; most of the games I love have a story that can be told in under five sentences. But if a game focuses on its story and that story is bad, then that's the worst thing in the world for me.
In short, I think it's gameplay that can make a game, but story that can break it.
I hate when i have to play on the hardest difficulty to get trophies.or quicktime events..i just want to watch the video. I usually forget that the game likes to throw some events during videos and so i usually die because i was enjoying some Doritos, or i actually react fast enough from eating to press the buttons and then i feel like a champ.
Right now, I'd go with repetitiveness and lack of variety.
Dragon Age 2 being a prime example. I have to say that I did enjoy the game (and I don't think it deserves half of the criticism it gets), but whenever I entered "the cave" or "the warehouse", I began feeling deeply annoyed.
The same can be said about Max Payne. I picked it up during the Steam sale a while back and I'm rather disappointed. The story is nice, but I'm about 8 levels in and it's always the same kind of ruined buildings over and over again. Ugh.
I also have a long-standing hatred for quicktime events and bad camera.
Grinding kills it for me. I don't mean side quests, I mean going and doing something other than what you should be doing to get more XP, money, brownie points, whatever. Has put me off quite a few games.
Also, anime style graphics. They just don't do it for me, and are super off-putting. I don't like anime in it's regular form, don't see why I would like it in game form.
Bosses that are impossible without grinding. When you have completed all/most of the story (and nothing else) but the boss is still impossible... And many other things on this list, actually.
Edit: Oh yeah, I also Hate flammers in multiplayer. I don't mind trash talking here and there as long as it doesnt take away from the game.
I hate a game that provides a long-term punishment for failure, such as an rpg that docks XP when you die or a strategy game that kills characters permanently if they die on a level, especially if you don't have the option to easily go back and do it better.
Edit: Like Pokemon, where they dock HALF OF ALL YOUR MONEY should you ever lose a battle.
God they suck....OH HAY GUYS...YOU HAZ PUZZLE...WE NO TELL YOU, NOT PUZZLE GAME FIGURE OUT THAT IT IS PUZZLE -_- Darksiders kinda comes to mind here....
