Citizen Kane No longer the best movie of all time

Metropolis is a beautiful film, certainly one of my favourite Silent works... have you seen the recently restored footage? Vertigo is my favourite Hitchcock film, so good choice and all... but I can't understand why this sort of stuff still gets people in a tizzy. Any "Greatest Film Ever...

Escape to the Movies: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't often disagree with Bob, well, not terribly often at any rate, but I do disagree with Bob here. I thought it was a great film, it did not quite reach the height of the previous entry, yes, but it wasn't off by any significant degree. It tied together thematic elements, plot elements...

    Recommend me some books

Give Gustav Meyrink's novel "The Golem" a go. Not terribly easy to find, unless you're up for ordering it off the internet. Order it off Amazon or the like and you'll find it easy and cheap. It's a highly atmospheric and stylistic mind-trip of a novel. You'll easily burn through it in a day or...

is lollipop chainsaw bastardizing our industry?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (etc) It's Suda 51, if nothing else the game is likely a satire of games in their current state. The industry really does need a good Suda 51 styled slap in the face, a slap doesn't take itself too seriously mind. I haven't played the game yet meself, but I shall do so...

New Silent Hill Worst One Yet?

No, please don't watch that let's play, it's awful. Those guys didn't even give the game a chance, you can tell they went into it wanting to hate it. They took the most minimal thing and nit-picked it to hell. That let's play was infuriating to say the least.

Ray Bradbury Passes at Age 91

At least he had an extraordinary life. To call him one of the greatest science fiction writers would be underselling it. He did so much more.

    The Watchmen Prequels

I find it hard to feel anything toward these prequels, simply because I know there was no emotion behind them. Watchmen is nothing but a cash-cow to DC, it's painfully transparent.

    Whats your favorite Horror monster

I'm quite the fan of Frankenstein's monster, particularly the depiction of the monster in the novel, the quintessential tragic gothic monster.

    Modern Gamers Unimpressed by Miyamoto

I don't know about that, Mother 3 is leagues ahead of most games. Actually the Mother games in general (though Mother 3 in particular) feature a kind of subversion rarely seen in games, Psychonauts comes closest to it.

Mature Games That Cater to Adults

If you need to validate your maturity by playing an "adult" game then you've got it wrong. You can be an adult and play Super Mario Galaxy, you can be an adult and make poop jokes, as long as you're responsible and not harming others there isn't anything wrong with it.

    Lovecraft is not really scary.

If you're taking Lovecraft on face value, then you're missing the point. Lovecraft's stories are simply about the fragility of human existence, the idea that around the corner something larger than you, something older and higher up the chain is waiting for you. Life is fragile, you are doomed...

Dangerous Gypsy horse race in Ireland.

Travellers are not a race, they are a bizarre social caste... sort of. It's quite complicated. The thing is, I've never once encountered a traveller who wasn't arrogant, ignorant and intentionally offensive. I'm sure there are some nice guys out there... but it really is hard to care sometimes.

Kid Icarus: Uprising and Hurt Nintendo Fans

Ah here we go again. It has to be said, however, I haven't had any problems with the controls. Not even when I play for an hour or two, or more. I can see why it would be a problem for some. I guess I should count my blessings that I have a pair of dainty Irish/European hands.

    That Was Half-Life 2?

Why is it that those who "dare" dislike Valve games or simply just Half-Life 2 seem to act with the idea that they're glorious martyrs and free thinkers. It almost seems as if this site has shifted, that it's much more popular to dislike Half-Life 2 as if it were old-hat.

    That Was Half-Life 2?

I didn't have any problems with it. It made sense thematically. Gordon never had any control to begin with. He is (or was at this stage) G-Man's pawn.
