Dark Souls Port Brings Console Problems to PC

Oh, so PC gamers are spoiled then? You know, I wonder why its always "Console gamers only care about graphics and not story!", and not the other way around.

The frame rate and resolution (which are exactly the same on consoles), look beautiful. This is a company who knows nothing about PC games, and is making it look like the work of art it is on consoles, which is still amazingly beautiful.

No, I take your response as "We just care about graphics more than you, its not the difficulty, or story, or any of that, its the graphics." Hell, I just cant wait until you play the game and say "Wait, theres no story", because you care to much about graphics and not the details.

First of all, I understand breaking my comments down into smaller sections, but I believe you may have distorted my views in several places with this feature and I would appreciate it if you would include a full text in these situations in the future.

What's so wrong with 30fps and console-based graphics if the PC version has been tweaked and adds new content? I don't really see how this can be complaint worthy. Sure, they probably could have made a better port, but it's not like they just sat on their thumbs until the last minute and changed all the xbox controls to mouse and keyboard- they still added things and fixed things. I'd wait and reserve judgement until after the game comes out.

And these completely shitty visual specs are anything but good. Never mind the actual graphics of the game, which already people weren't even expecting would get reworked (stuff like textures getting an HD treatment at the minimum).

Are you saying that having the same version of the game as the consoles makes it a bad PC game? The version that reaped positive reviews worldwide, received awards for the musical score, level design and atmosphere, and has some of the best boss fights of this generation?

None of that praise is directed at the graphics, and why should it be? The gameplay is solid, the atmosphere is excellent and the level design is great. Is making it look pretty really all that important? I certainly don't think it is.

It honestly sounds to me that the PC version is far superior to the game that I played for 130 hours on my PS3.

It sounds like it isn't actually superior, the framerate is simply smoother because it's running on a faster machine.

If you haven't played it, that is actually superior.

I'd say that it's pretty bad if they failed to meet a basic standard established over fifteen years ago. Nobody's complaining that they didn't make it look better, the issue is that a game with such potential has been needlessly limited.

The beauty is already there, all From Software needs to do is open the door.

Crysis 2 - console port
CoD - console port
Assassin's Creed - console port
Skyrim - console port (!!!)
Oblivion - console port (!!!)
The list could go on.
They were designed for consoles and later on ported to the PC.

All those games had at least changeable resolution and didn't have a FPS limit. Crysis had even a special patch for the PC version.
You know why? They had people who actually know how to port do the porting.

Seconded. I waited for the PC version just to have a personal experience with one of the best games this gen. I don't care if it's capped to 30 FPS or I can't play with 1680x1050 resolution. I just want to experience it up close and personal, something that only happens on PC (for me).

Righto, so it was Bandai Namco's decision to bring the game to PC... that explains a lot. I can't see those fuckheads ponying up enough money for From to anything more than a quick and dirty port. No outsourcing, no contracting a few PC specialists, no time to familiarise themselves with the platfom, no fucking anything.


To be honest, Bandai Namco are doing everything exactly the way they should if they want to ensure they're never asked to bring a game to PC ever again.

Ha... Hahahaha.... Hahahahahahahahahaha. Your very first sentence just kills me. Dark Souls is all about the game, and there are very very very few cutscene's, thats why you have to pay attention to the minor details!


Actually, let me rephrase your metaphor. Im like a parent who takes a kid to a nice steak house, then the kid complains that he wants a better steak, and then tells him to enjoy is freaking 15 dollar steak. Enjoy the greatness of what it is, not what your spoiled for.

I've never understood the aversion to PC games in Japan. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

It's not a 'japanese aversion to PC games' issue it's a 'a number of publishers and developers are dicks to PC gaming' issue. Bandai Namco are one of that number.

Of course, I'm already biased against them because of their lawsuits against CD Projekt.

It's too bad they couldn't fix these issues, they likely did something dumb at low level or don't have the expertise to change things, or maybe they just don't have the time and its harder to do they they estimated. Anyways, it might have been a good idea to delay the port until they had it mostly done to avoid having to release it prematurely and not up to the standards that PC gamers have come to expect. They're going to receive quiet a bit of flak for this.

"30 FPS OH NO THE GAME IS RUINED!", "Locked resolution i cant buy this game!". Some people need to reassess their values when it comes to gaming. Everyone begged for a PC port. Now that its not perfect, half the people who probably cried for it to happen are ready to jump off the boat before they know if its going to sink or not.

Be happy PC is getting it at all! I know im getting it. Its even 20$ off on launch, how can you say "no" to one of the greatest games ever released, in slightly better quality then its console counter part, being released on PC?

I used to weep for the gaming community when i was mostly a console gamer. Now that ive mostly been a PC gamer, a member of the "Glorious Gaming Master Race", id be more then happy to go back to playing my 360 daily and carrying my PSP everywhere i go. Sure, the console may have a bunch of whiny, high pitched brats screaming racial slurs into their microphones, but at least the majority of them arnt stuck up (please excuse my language here) arse-candy who ***** about every little detail not being 110% created for PC.

You dont like the ports your getting? D:< Go buy an Xbox and/or PS3 and/or Wii gaming console, and stop begging for them to be ported. If i beg for a game, im at least going to support it to show were willing to make things happen. NOOO! I must be able to play this game on 5 monitors at a time with 15000 FPS at ALL TIMES! I can't play this game like a CONSOLE gamer. Heavens no! These are plebeian problems that a PC using GOD such as myself should NEVER have to encounter!

Just because you won't be able to see every bead of sweat drip down your character's face as he lie dead in the middle of brilliant dragonfire doesn't mean the game will be terrible. I don't think its a 30 fps cap, more than just terrible optimization. Beefy rigs should be able to handle the game just fine.
From Software is awesome, but they don't really understand PC gaming.

Oh, ouch, locked framerate, locked resolution and nearly the winner in worst online DRM to deal with. The trouble is that I've been looking for a good hardcore hack and slash rpg for a very long time and this looks like it was designed to fill that role perfectly. Difficult decision.
