Obviously not a cynic then, because you've obviously not been watching game trailers over the last few years.SpiderJerusalem said:A cynic is just a person with enough experience to know better.rsvp42 said:Talk about cynicism... yeesh.SpiderJerusalem said:But as a trailer, the Dead Island one strikes me as a calculated bore that ticks every single cliché box over the past few years on how to make trailers and adds the kid into the mix to scrounge up the edge factor into it.
no ones laughing at it, we're saying its disturbinghittite said:I'm sorry, but no. No no no. Child death is never funny. Feel free to play the game if you want, but I, for one, will pass.
well there have been gameplay screenshots and a trailer with some gameplay back in 2007, but its probably gonna look completely differant if it has taken this longEagle Est1986 said:This trailer has caused so much buzz it's silly, I've seen loads of people hyped about the game but as far as I can see, the trailer tells us next to nothing. It could be a zombie racing game for all I know. Not that fussed about it, yet.

But while we are taking guesses at gameplay, judging from the trailer it will be a zombie survival game with time manipulation, which does sound kind of interesting.
Why does objectivity kill the magic?ReservoirAngel said:Trailer's unique ONLY because of the backwards story syncing up slowly to the proper one. Otherwise...very generic.
Somber scene - check
Innocent victim - check
Slow, sad music - check
Short fast cuts to more violent - check
During the cuts, music stops - check
It's just so formulaic. Created almost totally be the book to tug as many heartstrings as possible. Still, it works.
But you could take almost any two things and cut them together like that and they'd look more amazing than they are. I mean...take a scene of a child playing on a jungle gym, in slow mo, accompanied by swelling music and intercut it with ANY random fight scene from ANY random film, and people would say it's an amazing thing.
I never said it did. I said it's formulaic, I never said it wasn't still an amazing trailer. Objectivity doesn't kill the magic, it just makes it easier to see through the magic.Kopikatsu said:Why does objectivity kill the magic?ReservoirAngel said:Trailer's unique ONLY because of the backwards story syncing up slowly to the proper one. that's the third time you got something in your eye you should go to a doctor to check it...Evilsanta said:The trailer was great, atleast when it comes to delivering atmosphere and hype still I look forward to the game. I just hope the game can live up to the trailer.
And if you will excuse me, I need to get this clear liquid out of my eyes...
Did you think they ment this to be a humorous?hittite said:I'm sorry, but no. No no no. Child death is never funny. Feel free to play the game if you want, but I, for one, will pass.
