When the Columbine murders took place, there were national polls where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list
so in other words, people think that media violence was behind it so therefore that is what it was.
it doesnt matter if it was or not but people believe it is.

THIS IS WHY PSYCHOLOGY WILL NEVER BE A PROPER SCIENCE

That isn't psychology, that is just a crazy women grabbing at straws because she made an inflammatory comment. No psychological academic in their right mind would use an opinion poll as scientific evidence because as it states in the title, its an opinion poll. Please don't generalise to the entire subject because that is not how we do research.

Huh... Apparently to her a "national poll" counts as a "study."
ROIGHT! Well then I'm going to have a "national poll" over the cuteness of bunnies and then call it a study!

I R DOKTOR NAO.
Exactly what I was thinking. Except mines was about cake.

Since when did National Opinion, become Fact? Surely that statement alone completely destroys her entire case.

I just have to point out that she's a psychiatrist NOT a psychologist there's a world of difference for example:

A psychiatrist studies as an MD first then spends a couple of years studying psychology.

A psychologist spends significantly more time studying psychology but less time studying as an MD.

The net result is that she can prescribe drugs where a psychologist can not, which explains so much when you think about it.
Not that it matters this woman is a disgrace to both profesions not to mention a first class idiot.

So in summary:
-worked in media = not scientific credentials
-testify congress. Come on, even Mr Rogers has testified = not scientific credentials
-contributes to a non-peer-reviewed book = not scientific credentials
-public opinion polls. Opinion=/=fact.
-shooting sprees like columbine have WHAT to do with rape statistics?

The annoying big problem with these things is that they assume that everyone is at stable mental health, and that 100% of all gamers should be sane. There are millions of people who have gone batshit bonkers without the help of games. If let's say 0.1% of all people in the last year went insane, I 'll bet my balls that the average number of gamers gone mad are around the same. Nobody seems to have thought of this.

What the hell? THat's not a defence, you can't use national opinion as fact, national opinion that in itself is going to be biased because fearmongers like her tell people that everything will make you murder and rape anything that moves.

10 points to the lady who has no idea what shes talking about! Even though she barely has any proof backing up her claims she still insists shes right... I think she is the one who should be seeking psychiatric help.

But the truth is not democratic, we can vote on the sex of the rabbit, but it doesn't change the sex of the rabbit.

But still, even if she had material to prove her statement it doesn't mean we couldn't question it, especially when she generalized us all. The fact that some people might turn in to rapist from "VVG" is the same as some people get addicted easily, there's always some one. Doesn't mean it is any worse than some people getting drunk easy, or high, or get psychosis.

This ranks right up there with claiming that playing records backwards has satanic messages.

"witness for hire" is all you need to know about this woman, follow the money to see who wrote her a check to spin this crap. too many quacks have a phd that they apparently got out of a cracker jack box or printed off the internet and when they go around working for the highest bidder should tells you volumes about their intregrity.

she hasnt a leg to stand on no matter who you slice this there is no actual data at all the supports her claims, nor can she provide any sources for her claim, and pointing at everyone that disagrees with you can calling them ignorant, well this woman should make a living as an internet troll cause her behavior mirrors theirs, call everyone else stupid that does not agree with you good work there "doc."

Yeah! Another one of those people who markets there flawed ideology as science and goes onto the ignorance soap box (fox news). Honestly I think people like this and Fox News have made trolling a profession which is testament to the American dream and to human stupidity.

So she takes a poll (a poll that is opinion based, not scientificly based) and says that ''it must be right! look at all the people who obviously had some kind of knowledge on this!'' and called it a day? That's just freaking lazy!

I've played my fair share of violent and otherwise disturbing video games and i'm not a rapist/murderer.

I've actually had a look at some of these studies, most, if not all of them always say that these correlations are true for people who are psychologically pre-disposed to committing the violent act anyway and the trigger is not necessarily exclusive to video games, it could be any other form of media they consume.

Basically, this woman doesn't like video games and wants to damage them. Unfortunately, all she's influencing are bible-belt state mothers and old people who want something to be angry at because they can't accept the fact they're not as in control as they used to be.

She can't even obfuscate her words properly. This is as good as admitting she has found no link at all between rape and violent games.
Telling flat out lies and making up / falsifying non-existing studies would have been more convincing in the media, than her reply now.

She's harmless.
Good.
