Open World Zombie RPG/Shooter? I can't wait.

Hopefully they have put a lot of time into the melee combat since it is most of the gameplay.

I really like the mobility that the players seem to have. A huge mob of zombies coming from all sides would be terrifying.

So, it looks like Dead Rising - Time + Island + Better Graphics. I approve. Looking forward to it.

I was expecting a zombie game filled with a dark atmosphere.
At least it still looks good.

- while the enviroments look nice, the models (npc) are weird though
- I'm not against melee combat in this kind of game, and yes I think it would actually be hard to find a gun a tourist resort...a visit to a police station would fix that however, but what I really mind is the bad aim and depth perception/reach of your melee weapons, the player actually missed a lot of the times when a hit would've been certain in my opinion
- that leg kick just looks very bad (not the mechanic but the animation)
- indeed, what is the explanation for not being infected while fighting? there's so much blood squirts here that you'd probably drink a pint of it every hour

If anything, this game looks gorgeous. There should be a nice contrast between the beautiful island and the dead bodies everywhere.

I now see why the studio first compared the game to Borderlands. Either way, the game looks pretty solid.

I think it looks awesome. I think people calling it "Left 4 Dead + something + something else" are missing the point. This looks like a day 1 purchase to me, but I'll give it a go at E3 first and see how it feels.

You know, after the second "movie-esque" trailer, I started to get a little suspicious, like maybe there was a reason they hadn't followed up that awesome first trailer with some actual gameplay footage.

Well, to my surprise, the next trailer put most of my fears to rest. I don't even like zombie games, but this looks awesome.

The four player co-op made my pants stiff, the first person melee wit ha fatigue bar made them loose again.

All for the co-op, but I just hope the combat isn't broken with melee weapons. Melee weapons ruin every game (i.e. too easy).

*Before watching the video*

I have a feeling I am going to be pissed at the direction they will most likely take this....

*After watching the video*

Huh, I'm honestly surprised. I was thinking that, after all of the moody, sad trailers they first showed us, they were going to give us a complete 180 by showing yet another silly, wacky kind of zombie game. And while, to an extent, it was a silly, wacky zombie game, it does present a more darker kind of feel to it.

If they had done a complete 180 from what they showed on the trailers, they would have been complete assholes by manipulating us and tuging our heartstrings to generate hype. This doesn't seem to be entirely the case, thankfully. Maybe a 90 degree turn, traits of both worlds?

Color me extremely cautiously optimistic about this game. I am very nervous for it as I feel they still have some untapped potential in this concept (a darker, more mature survival game). Time will only tell how they go about this idea, but it does look interesting.

That looked really nice, actually.

I'm not usually a fan of the whole zombie setting, but this intrigues me.
This. I'm not a huge fan of zombies in games, ever since I played Thief 1 as a wee one, but I'm liking this. I'm even interested in the whole fatigue bar thing...

I'm intrigued apart from one thing; First-person melee combat.

...Oh wait, it's even worse: First-person melee combat with a fatigue bar. *ugh*
This is, however, one of the few situations in which a fatigue bar makes sense. One of the key points in the "zombie vs. human" battle is that zombies never tire out. That means if you're being surrounded, you now have an in-game reason to run away. It's meant to be a zombie survival game, as opposed to zombie hunting.

It might be that true "survival"-type games aren't your cup of tea, but I'm just hoping to shed some light on why it's a good fit for this particular game.
That may be true, but that doesn't mean it's not still going to piss me off.

Dead Rising had something similar with deteriorating weapons. If they didn't include it, you'd just constantly be using the one-handed chainsaw and breeze through the game. But it was a constant nag to have your fighting ability simply break down mid-fight.

And that's the same vibe I'm getting from this walkthrough. If the developer wanted to give the player a reason or threat to run away from the zombies, I'd rather they'd put in somekind of "infection" bar, or something. Somekind of indicator that pops up whenever you fight zombies, so that the longer you fight with them the more the risk of infection increases.

This would give you more than enough reason to run away without taking away your ability to fight.

you can craft electric machetes and explosive C4 knives but it's hard to find or use a gun? really ?
You'd be surprised how many things in your bathroom alone could be made into a considerable explosive, let alone an actual weapon.
I don't really care that we can blow things up with toothpaste and bleach, I'm just hoping that they will give us an explanation for being able to have those things on a tourist island. Guns are supposed to be "hard to find" but C4 (+detonator) is easy?
