Not Ashley and Jack, but defiantly Ashley and Tali or Miranda.

Cheating on Kaiden will be par for the course. when he complains "Sorry bub, but you're just to much of a whiny ***** for me, and look at Jacob! he and I had a three way with Kasumi. I never saw my wallet again."

of course there is one new flame that should be in Mass Effect 3. Mad Moxxi!

Well my Shepard is safe then. Ashley was a cross eyed xenophobe and Liara had an unhealthy attracts to artifacts. I spent more time talking to Tali between missions so when she became a romance option in 2, I jumped on that like Kotichk on poor yearly releases

It says there are problem if you cheated but I have yet to see them even mention the benefits if you didnt?

Theres plenty of variables of course.
Im hoping to see how this works out in the future.

My real problem with Mass Effect if how everythings so black and white, ME2 punished us neutral/grey Shepards deicisions.

This makes me nervous...but here's my story.

In ME1 I was with Ashley.

In ME2 I was faithful to Ashley, until that scene in Hope's Landing when she acted how she did. I took that to mean we were definitely over. I don't date people who don't trust me--and people who accuse me of being a terrorist? Yeah, that doesn't work well with me.

So, *after* that, I began my romance with Miranda--and I didn't consider it cheating because it seemed like Ash and I were over...but then I got that apology email from Ash, and now it looks like Bioware will consider it cheating.

Man. I'm screwed.

And what's so bad about that? That means there are romance options for all players...

I honestly do not see how that is bad thing...

In the first Mass Effect Kaiden turns down the male shepard if you try and romance him. Also The same is said for Ashley. So now they all of a sudden swing both way? No I don't think so.

Those are both established characters. Its going to screw with the story as well as peoples immersion, especially the ones who have ported the same Shepard from ME1 to ME2 and into ME3.

It's a bit hard to reconcile this article with the announcement that same sex relationships will be available in ME3

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1168458p1.html

I'm guessing that going gay for Garrus will be one of the main routes for that. That's taking bromance to a whole new level...

On one hand...Yay! This means I can probably continue where I left off With Tali! :D

On the other hand....I'd better get bulletproof armor, because Ashley is gonna murder me. I really hope there's the option to tell her:
"You hurt me! You walked away first! Yeah, you emailed me later, but you still walked out on me! :( I want someone who is ready to trust me no matter what, and Tali did, even though cerberus attacked her damn fleet!"

....Yeah, I had a feeling this would bite me in the ass. But Tali is so much deeper and more interesting than Ashley. Would have pursued Tali in the first game if she was an option, actually (she started off so annoying but soon grew on me)
I agree with this. It was one of the few times I was shouting at the TV. "Oh, come on Ash. It's not like I had ANY choice being dead". Tali is a much nicer person. Also, she isn't a xenophobe.

OT: Well, it's good to know. I am not looking forward to the two of them meeting again...

Okay, after reading this article I went to IGN to get my "mainstream" gaming news, and what do I see on the IGN homepage? Another article talking about ME3 romances, but this article was saying that same sex relationships are possible in ME3 despite not being in the first two games. My response was an extended "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat". The only reasonable explanation I can think of, in my Benadryl addled state at least (Aren't colds fun?), is that ME3 will have no new characters that are romance-able but that old characters that have not been romance-able before will be romance-able in the 3rd game. It's either that or one of two articles, both from legitimate sources, is wrong.

Here's the IGN article: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1168458p1.html

I've been sniped, oh darn.

While this certainly seems interesting (although only the "no new romances" is news to me), I am still somewhat cynical now when Bioware talks about having choices and consequences. There has been very little evidence in Mass Effect so far, and don't get me started on Dragon Age 2.

Here is hoping they live up to their word this time around, this series is great and I want it to end on a positive.
Anyone would think that tying up every single loose end from the first game in the second game would be genius in a trilogy.
Who said anything about loose ends?

My character is anti-Cerberus from Mass Effect 1, completely and utterly. As are a lot of peoples. Where is our option to outright say that this is the case when they decide to force us to work with them? There is quire literally, in all the fantastic dialogue, no option to claim that you hate Cerberus as much as your friends, but you must in order to save the galaxy.

You never do, the closest you get is "I don't agree with all they do, but we are going to do work together anyway", in a casual, placating tone. As though your non-human friends are not justified in wondering why the hell their Anti-Xenophobic, Pro-Variety Commander is suddenly working for what can only be described as "the enemy".

Some may argue that they "Can't account for all options" and this is true, except that being pro-human or pro-cooperation are pretty much the entirety of the major decisions in the series.

I always choose Tali, but I feel I should point out that Ash isn't a Xenophobe, not in the sense that she actively dislikes aliens. She is just mistrustful of their value as allies to humanity as well as humanities seeming reliance on them. She does not hate them though as can be seen throughout her dialogue in the elevators with other team members.

If they make everyone bisexual then people will go insane.

Personally I can only really see Tali and Kaiden being bisexual. Tali because of her dialogue with Shepard after her loyalty mission (basically the same as with a male, but it cuts off at the part where the romance can start) and Kaiden with his Horizon speech.

The others have never really struck me as being anything but heterosexual. Others may disagree and I would be interested to see why (unless they support the argument that everyone should be bisexual).

Yes, that confused me as well. I was really looking forward to one of my FemSheps romancing Tali in the third game...

If they just mean that only the previously romancable characters are on the menu, but ALL of them are now available (instead of only one gender) then that will be very good. Then I can get into a four-way argument between Liara, Garrus, Tali, and Shep about who ends up with whom. ^^

This just in you can have male romance options for male sheps in mass effect 3
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/mass-effect-3-will-have-gay-romance-option-for-male-shepard/
So between this article and the linked article it's pretty obvious that the characters we've come to know, the ones that have been established over two games and 4-5 years of fan interaction...are going to suddenly be bisexual DA/2 style.
Who will be bisexual?
To what extent and why will they be after Shep in this new light?
How does this make any sense? (p.s. it doesn't)

Doesn't matter now. We know enough already. This must've been EA's "appeal to a wider market" tactic.

I'd just like to say that though this is proof (so far) that Bioware doesn't give a shit about character continuity and would shovel as much fanservice into their games (excluding nudity but plenty of ass-shots) as it takes to get people to buy them, since it is inevitable now...
I guess I can at least be happy for the same sex gamers. I was happy when Tali was made available, and that was definite fanservice. If it's done as well and as optional as her romance and Garrus's, I guess I can stop myself from chewing my tongue in muted anger over the character inconsistencies. Besides, if done right and it's not painful, it could be daw-level sweet. <: )
...However, I have a very bad feeling that these beloved characters will now go all Fenris and Zevran on us, winking at us and practically being sexual predators to make the obvious even MORE OBVIOUS, and let us know, "WE CAN BE GAY NOW! DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU? DO YOU KNOW NOW? DO YOU WANT A ROLL IN THE HAY NOW? NO? I'LL COME BACK IN FIVE MINUTES AND ASK AGAIN THEN."
_And, lest we forget, that turning them down even politely will make them not like us, or make them get all pissy.

I hope I'm wrong. I do, because it would be weird to have your best friend suddenly act all randy with you out of nowhere...after knowing you for years...
F.Shep: "Tali, that's the fourth time you've bumped your hips into mine."
Tali: "S-sorry. I guess it's just so crowded here, Shepard. L-like on the flotilla."
F.Shep: "But we're on the command deck. There's a lot of space to-"
Tali: "That reminds me...um... D-did you ever see that movie Fleet and Flotilla?"
F.Shep: "Uh...Can you step back a bit? You're a little close to-"
Tali: *hip-bump*
F.Shep: "Stop it."

M.Shep: "Garrus you got a sec?"
Garrus: "Yeah, sure, just doing some calibrations on my main canon. Wanna take a look?"
M.Shep: "In a sec, buddy. I was wondering how the turians would-"
Garrus: "Get it?"
M.Shep: "...No? Anyway, I was saying-"
Garrus: "...The main canon is my penis."
M.Shep: o_O
Garrus: "I picked that up from some inter-species flirtation vids. It was supposed to suggest-"
M.Shep: "I think I know what it was supposed to suggest."
*awkward silence*
Garrus: "...I'm just gonna go back to-"
M.Shep: "Yeah, that's a good idea."
*with wide-eyed horror* The awkwardness... The awkwardness...

I'm a little irritated that Bioware considers my breakup with Kaiden at Hope's Landing (or whatever it's called o_O) and then hooking up with Garrus to be cheating. Yes, breakup. The game didn't give me a choice over whether or not I wanted to end the relationship after he wailed "why didn't you call me! You terrorist! I can't trust you!"

I knew Bioware would count it as "cheating". (I didn't cheat on Liara because she behaved like an adult about the whole thing. Was I disappointed? Yes. Driven to the point of killing her like I was with Kaiden on every single Mass Effect playthrough ever after? No.) But it still bothers me that they are. I love how I'm supposed to overlook the fact that he basically shit all over me, then tells me he was seeing someone else (which is fine), and then says he needs to think about it. We were broken up. I died. He was seeing someone else. We didn't get back together the next time we met, ergo we were still broken up. You can't cheat someone you broke up with...

I don't think that makes sense for a lot of the characters. I'd understand if one of the characters was "in the closet", although you'd think society would become more tolerant after encountering alien species, but to have every single one of them be gay or bisexual seems to be a bit of a stretch. In addition, the same person, (Casey Hudson) is responsible for the info for both articles so now I'm even more confused.
