Man Forgot Loaded Handgun in His Carry-On, TSA Forgot To Notice

So, the TSA's policies get more ridiculous, and people manage to get more and more through. Might I suggest less dick touching and naked people viewing, and revert to more traditional standbys? They've worked before. I cannot see how violating people's personal space could possibly help national security. At all. This is ridiculous.

Is it just me or is it highly probable that this guy did it on purpose just to prove a point? "I have a handgun in a bag, and that's all I'm taking on the plane."

Mistakes are always made, we're human. This one time it was a gun, this one time it was a sensible and responsible man. Next time it might not be, but this time it wasn't. No one was hurt, everything is fine.

A handgun though? It's so obvious.

if he was trying to prove a point, then I say mission accomplished because all he had in the bag was his handgun and made it to his destination.

Perhaps he thought his laptop was in the bag when he picked it up, and when he got to his destination he went for his laptop and thought, "oh crap, all I got is my gun."

Well, all states have concealed-carry liscenses. It depends on the nature of the state laws as to how difficult it is toget them.

In Texas, its like, a 6 hour class and a fee for the liscense. In California, it's classes that take MORE time than to get pilot certification. So, more than 150 hours to get a concealed-carry liscense.

Texas, somehow (possibly due to the person you're commiting a crime against has a gun on them?), has a lower crime rate than California.

FUCK the TSA. Those lazy good for nothing bastards need to go straigth to hell.
Be realistic. Getting pat down is far from being molested. I've been through an airport twice since these new measures got forced in and neither time have I been in any way mistreated, nor did I see a scene indicating anyone else was.

Fake outrage is just that-fake. Grow up already.

I think this is appropriate:

Thinking about it, requiring 2-5 air marshals (depending on the size of the plane) put randomly in the plane in desguise would protect flights far better then any sensor that the TSA can make.
Ew collegehumor... Anyways, they actually do have air marshals on some flights. I think at one time they even tried to get 2 air marshals on all flights, but that's just too much. Think of how many planes are flying, multiply that by 2 and then add in the factor that many of them don't want to be sitting on a plane for consecutive days. Then add in the fact that if anyone else on the plane notices the air marshal that might be stupid enough to open-carry, they could freak out. (as many people who have that weird fear of guns would do) This would lead to mass hysteria and many others would want to begin carrying on a plane for their safety.
This goes back to what I've been saying for a few years now: If everyone is allowed to carry a gun, crime will go down. Imagine this: You're in a plane and some terrorist begins waving a gun around. If everyone else has a firearm and is trained with it, than that terrorist won't get very far before he's filled with more holes than swiss cheese.

Dude, I live in CA and it takes longer than 150 hours for a CCW. You need to be either military or police in my area (LA). You also have to give them a reason as to why you want to concealed carry and it has to be better than, "I need to defend myself and I don't want whoever is threatening me to know I have a gun."

Ever been to Texas? Youcan actually get away with shooting someone there if you can prove in court that they "needed a shootin'."
I was there once. It is a bit scary. I don't even have anything against guns; I would be just as wary of a place where everybody walks around with hammers, knives, or other tools around on their person or on racks in their trucks.

I used to use the same bag for camping and air-travel and one time I made it through JFK (NYC) & Hethrow (London) with a pretty big camping knife.

I applied for a security job at that very same airport and I am currently in the ready pool for a job when a position opens up. This makes me cringe when I think they might hire me.

Edit: "Oh, and don't forget your handgun, sir. Have a nice day."

This. The worst part is that the general public is so ignorant that they will not even bother to voice their thoughts about this, even if they even have the insight to have any in the first place.
I'm going to call absolute bullshit on this comment.

Firstly every single person I've met has pretty much consistantly complained about the measures.
Secondly, how exactly have you "voiced" your thoughts? Also keep in mind the TSA don't read the Escapist so this doesnt count.

I lived in Texas all my life and I can pretty much say only one thing for certain about guns. Pulling a gun on someone in Texas is practically, you probably won't live to regret like the robbers in this story.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/7347027.html

Summary of story: Robbers shot the owner, 52-year-old Ramon Castillo, in the abdomen, shoulder and legs, leaving him in critical condition Sunday. Castillo shot and killed the three armed robbers, who had tied up his wife of 30 years.

After this whole TSA thing I'm suddenly very glad I don't fly often.

This doesn't top something I heard recently about the Canadian Foreign Minister. One of the guys who worked on the Ottawa Treaty (big anti-landmine treaty) said in a lecture at my school that the minister actually has a series of still active landmines in his offices that he uses for 'visual aids'. I translate that to 'if Harper ever fires me, I'm putting these little bastards all over his lawn.'

I would like that to, I know that an armed society is a safe society, but everybody in Congress would need several changes of pants just for thinking about that.

Most polls I've seen trend towards people being okay with the increased security and feeling safer. Truth is some might think it's inconvenient but the majority are more likely to accept it if they think it makes flying safer.

Not that I like to quote the founding fathers like they are Gods, but they had some decent ideas:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." ~Benjamin Franklin

The guy on the $100 bill comes back from beyond the grave to tell us this is a bad idea.

I've heard it's suppose to be referred to as "play time". No joke, too.
No... Just no... >_<

Also, this is silly. How can you be the most overprotective agency to date, and strip search 80% (Source: My ass) of people but miss a guy with a handgun?

For shame, TSA! For shame!
