don't forget that it will feature a tacked-on lackluster multiplayer that your pretty much forced to play if you want a "good" ending

Well considering how Casey Hudson said that 3 would be the last Shepard game, but certainly not the last Mass Effect game about the same time Mass Effect 2 came out, I'm surprisingly not all that surprised. I'll definitely by looking into this in hope. I know Bioware can still make good games, they just have to get out of the money-grubbing hands of EA.

Oh look, another person still complaining about Mass Effect 3's ending. Did you not enjoy the other 20 hours of the game? Did you not think the other 99% of it was above normal? I liked the ending, it was a means for each player to interpret it their own way rather than to have a story told to us. In retrospect, it was probably the best way they could end the series. Especially considering how Talimancers would have nothing less than you helping repopulate Rannoch with Tali, the Ashley haters wanting her to be crucified, and the other twats who spent way too much time complaining about the game wanting their exact, specific, different endings.

EDIT: I've been saying this for the past few years, but I really do wish the next Mass Effect game is about the First Contact War. Then again, because they said the main character wouldn't be a soldier, it could be about how Aria rose to power in Omega.

How about a game where I get to fly the Normandy for once as Joker? The fact that I never got to do that in the first three games is incredible considering the main enemies of the series are basically big sentient spaceships.

Besides Joker deserves to get some attention, he's one of the best pilots in the galaxy and sticks with Shepperd literally throughout the entire story. He was key to some of the most important battles in the series yet the only time we get to play as him is when he's limping around Normandy helplessly during one scene in ME2. What a waste.

Well... I'd like to be optimistic about it.

Something less military inclined would be good for the mass effect series. I remember in Mass Effect 1 completely missing the scope of the Citadel. I literally thought it was mostly corridors with the Presidium being the only open area... and only recently discovered that the actual living areas were represented by a single sky box.

Would be nice to delve into the underworld a bit. Show some human infiltration of the Black Market. But on the other hand, that does seem a bit too reactionary. A simple story of an independent trader trying to earn a decent living would be nice. Firefly but with Geth basically.

But yeah, time to back away from Shepard. Now the big threat is done with, we can take our time and look around, and build up some personal stories. Bring in some mechanics from the X series, and such.

Personally as a total surprise, I'd love ot see them take the forth ending... you know... the one with Liara's recording saying the Reapers won? Start the game off 500,000 years in the future with the new main charceter finding it and starting the whole series off again.

Mostly to see if they could come up with something original and not a 100% plot copy with Grazbians and Fertunians and Blarg as opposed to the Asari, Salarians and Turians.

One big thing could be that the relays were still somehow destroyed or rendered inoperable, so the Reapers tactic of "let them find it and come to the Citadel" might not work.

Planet Scanning: the game.

But really, going off on a different tangent from the main trilogy was the only route open to them. The main storyline would have played itself out even if starchild had never been written into the story. And a sequel wouldn't be possible without a huge retcon or an Invisible War-style conglomeration of endings.

Set the game several million years after Mass Effect, that way the decision made at the end can be as damn vague as they want

You should notice how he never mentioned the ending in particular. I for one thought the entire game was a gigantic downgrade compared to 2, which was also a downgrade compared to 1.

Oh, and the best way they could have ended the series, was to not balls up the plot to lead it into the direction it did.

My prediction for Mass Effect 4 is something along the lines of a "super secret" mass relay sending a ship of crew members of different races (character race selectioooon) to a different galaxy, where they encounter a new races, and a new threat.
Then it's probably going to be reapers again.

After the way ME3 ended the only way I'm going to buy another mass effect game is if EA went bankrup and bioware is independent again.

Commander Shepard has gone beyond the call of duty so let him / her rest in peace. Really if they allow me to import my ME3 shepard into fourth one I'll call that a glowing space kid sized plothole right there.

Can they please say there won't be Shepard in the future Mass Effect games one more time?

Because we don't seem to have gotten the message the first 50 times.

ME4 should give the option to be the child of Liara and Shep. 'Nuff said. It's done. YOu've got your plan Bioware. Go now. Do it.

My thoughts as well - after the way 3 ended, how many people are going to be willing to trust Bioware on another series of Mass Effect games?

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..."
I totally agree on this, but I feel that Bioware could potentially close most of the remaining plot holes with some well crafted DLC. Of course, that's assuming Bioware A: in anyway can/will acknowledge that there are plot holes or B: actually care what the fans think.

I don't really want to turn this into a rant on ME3 - we've had enough of those

My point: if Bioware couldn't produce an end to a series with massive potential that didn't just become confusing and creating plot holes, why should anyone anticipate we will get anything better second time around with even fewer of the more talented writers left?

I have a horrible feeling that ME is going to get so run into the ground that the magic will be lost

thats seams to be the case. more money for ?A. forcing bioware to keep going with it so they can have their 100$ bills next to them in bed.

I wouldn't be surprised if they focused on the events of Anderson, although I have to say that before that came to mind I had visions of Mass Effect Age 2 after I read it wasn't going to be about a soldier.

Can't say I'm to interested in ME after ME3 to be honest :(

I will be doing the exact same thing I am doing with other series that just keep going. Feel a tad sad that they aren't creating a new IP and then wait till it comes out to judge it based off its own merits. If they do it well it could be great, and ME3 in no way makes me less likely to get it. Because completely ignoring the ending (regardless of if you loved it or hated it) the rest of the game is still one of the best gaming experiences I have had. Things like the Rannoch mission for example, are far too rare in the gaming industry and really made the game into something great.
