Erm, except you just admitted that being a gamer has little to do with it. And then insisted that people were too nitpicky when you said that gaming plays some sort of significant role. Which, I let me remind you again, you confirmed it didn't in the previous sentence.

"Gamer" isn't an identifier, it's a describer. It's one facet of my, and other's, lives. We're just more passionate and into it than other people are.

So please, you and all other people who think that people who call themselves gamers see it is an identity, stop badmouthing us that don't have issues with the term. It's getting silly.

As Vault101 said, nobody is taking an issue with people calling themselves gamers, people are taking issue with people trying to wrap their whole being around the concept. You said it yourself - it's a describer - you could also be an avid book reader, cyclist, mechanic and a chef, if you wish, but none of the other descriptions (I hope) govern every aspect of your life. We are just people, after all, we all have variable degrees of skill and interest at stuff. Letting one of the labels dictate more than it should is idiotic and shouldn't be done.
