Yeah, it sounds more like "Allargh Aghbah." Don't you think we're being overly sensitive over barely distinguishable grunts in a cartoon boxing game?

Is it just me or did you state that "Allah Akbar" is a commonly used phrase, but because terrorists have used it we should be offended?? WTF?

Part of me thinks that evangelicals think the term Allahu Akbar is part of a magical spell.. They don't want their children saying it, mimicking their favorite Turkish Pugilist, sort of like how they didn't want their kids to play D&D, because they were afraid that somehow their children would actually summon demons because of all of the "very accurate depictions of real world spells"

Meh, kinda like Backmasking. People really like to find hidden meaning where there is none to fuel their own agenda. Sounded like random Turkish grunting to me.

Good god! Why does anybody care about this? So a game character has said "Allah Ackbar!" Other characters say Goddamn all the time. Not to mention all the other curses that show up! As for 9/11? We need to get the hell over it. Sorry if that's not sensitive enough, but dammit, I'm tired of hearing stuff brought up about it to justify being an idiot!

Go to his Youtube profile. This man is a hardcore conservative retard. I'm sorry but hardcore conservative by nature is just dumb. He said he was objective in his explanation of everything and it's a load of shit. Saying anything else would just be redundant of me.

I'm not quite sure why his years of experience playing and selling video games really makes him qualified to comment on religious extremism.

1. he isn't saying anything of the sort

That is a very common phrase in Islam. It's said during prayers at least 10 times. It's a bit silly to associate this only with terrorists anyway.

It seems to me that yet again some self-centered and prejudiced twat has emerged with the hopes of boosting his own ego and to gain publicity by accusing video games. And so what if the games features a phrase that, in some situations and at some times, could be used as a negative one. If games couldn't feature such frases, then there wouldn't be any intelligent dialogue. In my humble opinion, just treat this Del Riley person as a RL troll and ignore him.

Punch-Out!! Boxer Accused of Uttering Islamic Phrase

Another day, another videogame character accused of shouting pro-Islamic phrases: This time it's Punch-Out!! [http://punchout.nintendo.com/] boxer Bald Bull, who according to one observer says "Allah Akbar" while trading leather in the ring.

Remember back in January when Indiana mom Rachel Jones heard the Nintendo DS game Baby Pals say, "Nintendo Wii [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/88990-Mother-Finds-Pro-Islam-Message-In-DS-Game] title Punch-Out!!, which according to self-styled conservative pundit and long-time gamer Del Riley features a Turkish character named Bald Bull who utters the phrase "Allah Akbar."

"Allah Akbar," which is typically translated as "God is great," is used by Muslims in a variety of situations but has become most notorious as the battle cry of terrorists and suicide bombers. This makes it problematic, Riley claimed on his YouTube channel [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9C7jQcGl0c&feature=channel_page], because despite its other connotations, "we can't forget that this phrase is fiercely inflected before murderous animals do things like" the September 11 bombings of the World Trade Center.

"Not even eight years after 9/11, are we going to accept this phrase in a videogame rated 'E' for Everyone?" he said. "What do the families of [the victims of] these heinous crimes think of this? Is this good for our children?"

But does Bald Bull actually speak the phrase at all? Riley's YouTube replay of the sequence in question, available around the 2:10 mark if you're not interested in watching the whole thing, is debatable at best. Much like the burbling in Baby Pals [http://www.cravegames.com/games/babypals/index.asp], what you hear is largely a question of what you want to hear. With Riley's guidance I can pick up the barest outlines of the phrase; without it, I'm sure I'd hear nothing more than the angry shouting of a huge Turkish dude who can't lay a glove on me.

all I heard was: Arurgh; Aru akba.

thats seriously all I could hear.

so why is he spreading this and saying it is disrespectful to those who died in 9/11 and the game shouldnt be rated E? Its a game, and you misheard a character saying something. Get over it.

Allah Akbar? It's a trap! XD
This. Clearly the boxer is really saying "Admiral Ackbar"
Which only raises further questions.
He realizes he's trapped in the ring and about to get his ass kicked?

Honestly, this entire thing is just stupid.
Anyone who is converted to Islam because a toy says a few Islamic phrases is fucking retarded in the first place, and not fit to join the human race, lest they be convinced the moon really is made of cheese.

And if that isn't the concern, what is?
That kids playing a game might hear a bit of foreign?
Oh noes. Culture.
Someone speaking sense! Hooray!

Yeah someone definitely is making a mountain out of a molehill. The character is Turkish. So we should Americanize foreigners now so we can protect our children from the evils of other cultures? Oh noes! Not learning! ANYTHING BUT THAT!

Also, theres a new idea for Lucasarts. Star Wars Boxing Night. Actually nevermind, they might actually make that.

I wonder if there would be so much uproar if the toys said 'Jesus loves you' instead.
