Rumor: Leaked Concept Art Hints at New Valve IP

I'll just throw it out there that I'm personally not expecting episode 3. At this rate, I think Valve has realized that they can't keep up with what an episode was supposed to be (more frequent), and with the updates to the source engine (Portal 2 looks much better than even Lost Coast, in my opinion), its probably in Valve's best interest to go all in and make the next Half Life installment Half Life 3.

That's just my opinion, and its not related to the leaked art, so feel free to glance over it.

EDIT: Now i know what this reminds me of: Jovian Empire in EVE ONLINE [http://www.eveonline.com/races/jove.asp]
A civilization who liked gene-splicing. Ended up as hyperintelligent cancerous freaks of nature.
You mean EVE has a point other than waste a month of real-time just to maybe hopefully have grinded enough macgiffins to level your ship up 0.1%?

I'm guessing from the messed up faces and pregnant women that the plot for this project involves genetic engineering of some sort, and, from the space ships, that it might also involve space travel. Other than that I guess I'll just have to wait and see, but it should be interesting.

These pictures are incredibly bizarre. I don't think they have anything at all to do with any of Valve's current franchises.

Can't be DOTA2. DOTA2's aesthetics are more in the line of these...

Ooooo! Space ships! Can we get a space combat game? Pweety pwease, Valve?
Whoa. Those look badass. Then I looked up what Defense of the Ancients is and was 200% less thrilled.

Still, I'd like to see Valve do something not in first person. And without zombies. Until then, Valve is not really for me (I do enjoy TF2. It's the exception to my "I hate the first-person perspective" rule).

The outfits scream "Tron", the spaceships scream "EVE Online", and the faces scream "OH GOD PLEASE END MY HORRIBLE EXISTENCE".

[small]Seriously, nightmare fuel in some of those pictures.[/small]

let's take a look at Valve's general history, shall we?
Half-Life: dominated the FPS genre
Left 4 Dead: dominated the zombie genre
Team Fortress 2: dominated the online FPS genre
Portal: dominated the puzzle genre

what's big now? sci fi. Mass Effect and KOTOR are huge now, so if I had to gues, Valve has targeted the next genre it's going to re-define and make completely amazing.

as for an alternate guess?
well... Episode 3 is long overdue...
but on a more serious and sleuthy note, take a look at these characters... there's a diverse cast as far as race/appearance goes... and there's a few shots with FOUR people standing next to each other...
could it be?
Left 4 Dead?
INNNNNNN SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!!!!!!

10000% these aren't concept art for DotA. They've already mentioned (and fans are expecting) a near 1:1 port which means current heroes in the WC3 engine SHOULD look the same and not like some messed up goth-emo-weirdo kind of crossover.

Given the notorious nature of the DotA community, once this is announced half will die of depression while the other half will burn Valve to the ground.

You may be on to something. I was thinking more of a space RPG with multiplayer that worked like Borderlands. Or maybe (dare I say it) something like Mass Effect except with multiplayer where your squad is actually other people?

Is it me, or does that artwork scream "Very Early Mass Effect Sketches"? Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking that.

Better question is: Is this another mod that Valve bought up and changed up a bit, OR will this be the first game that Valve has made since episode 2?

My perfect explanation for this would be a space-age MMO in the same vein as mass effect and kotor and stuff but obviously with the valve awesomeness in it. But yeah - Valve has made games with crazy replayability, and so combining that with the MMO formula could make...dare I say it...a WoW killer.

Boom. Mind: blown.

If this IS a new IP, it would be typical Valve, unable to focus on one series and wondering off like some ADD addled child. Or it could be some late April Fools prank that no one gets but them, either way I can't say I care.
