As long as George Lucas doesn't write the dialogue. Or the plot. Actually, can we just keep George Lucas away from it altogether?

LOL PWN! Something about the thought of a new trilogy sucking and having people's hopes crushed sounds funny. Oh yeah they'll probably blow ass.

I disagree with the hypothesis that wiggle room will help; as RedLetterMedia have pointed out several times, Lucas's grasp of how to effectively convey messages and so forth is no longer with us, and might never have been there in the first place (ie other people forcing him to include stuff like the opening sequence of A New Hope). Bear in mind that the original C-3PO was supposed to behave like a used car salesman.

Lucas had a pretty nice idea for how to execute a science fantasy story, but I'm pretty confident that it was other people who forced him to turn it into one that actually worked out to mythic proportions...though he did, at least, have a few VERY good ideas (such as his instructions to the actors on how they should handle the big reveal in Empire Strikes Back).

Does a fairly tale in space really require a set of sequels? Furthermore, what is this obsession with trilogies? I mean, I like trilogies, but not everything has to have a trilogy. Why not just make one movie? Or two? Better yet, why not try to make a TV series instead? Heck, how about Lucas try making something other than Star Wars?

That said, if the movies are made with the the rumoured concept (i.e. story taking place well after the events in the original trilogy), then they might have a shot at being decent. I liked Knights of the Old Republic better than any of the movies and that takes place well before the original events. Placing the setting far ahead of the original story might bring in some sorely needed fresh ideas.

But whether or not the movies succeed will entirely depend on whether Lucas has shifted his focus and will make the movies based on what the fans think Star Wars is about and not what he thinks it is about. People who work in entertainment industries in general have trouble wrapping their ahead around the idea that they should be creating what the audience wants them to and not what they want to. The result is that many long-lasting franchises become "worse" in the eyes of fans. The controvery regarding the Star Wars prequel movies was precisely the clash between George Lucas's views and those of the fans.

For the sake of the fans (I may not be one of them, but I can still sympathise with them), I hope Lucas has shifted his perspective. Otherwise, they are just going to be in for another three-course disappointment....and this time, it might be one that destroys the franchise entirely.

I really don't have as much hate for the prequel trilogy as most people do. I actually kinda liked episode 1, the other two were fairly boring besides the lightsaber fighters but oh well.

Either the new ones are good and I'm happy, or they suck and I just never watch them again and move on.
honestly this.

i loved 4-6 but when i watched 1 (and still occasionally do on tv) i thought it was pretty damn good

liam neeson is a beast? check.
darth maul with a MOTHERFUCKING DOUBLE BLADED LIGHTSABER and horns? check.
obi won kenobi being the super jedi he is bound to become? check.
pod racing? check.

pretty good to me.

Well, I'm a little skeptical about some super secret leak source and will fully believe this is happening when something more credible surfaces. If it is, however, I'd say this is what Lucas is doing to Star Wars:

At the very least he could show some mercy and think it through and involve a lot of other creative people in the process.

Damnit. I'm pretty sure I called this, but in this case I hate being right. Damn you George. Damn you to Hell. Let it go, leave us to our misery and dissatisfaction as they are.

I'm not surprised, there's still a few drops of milk left in the franchise after all.

Um... Do not want?

To be honest, I don't care one way or the other. I'm more amused with the possible reactions of you all and especially Star Wars fans :p

Actually, on second thought, I'm kind of getting tired of the whole Star Wars subculture. Make something new, Lucas!

Ignoring the fact that Lucas would probably ruin it either way, I couldn't care less about something in Star Wars if it were to take place so far in the future.

The problem is that Lucas can't write scripts.
Agreed. The dialogue he writes makes me cringe.

That said, I'm not against this idea. A new trilogy could be mildly pleasant. I never loved the original or prequel trilogies to death all that much. I just like force powers, lightsabers, spaceships and laser beams. Give me those with a half-decent plot that doesn't have some of that terrible dialogue, and I should enjoy myself.

Lucas is a buisnessman first and film maker second.
If he makes it with this mindset, I'm not going to watch it.
If he Produces it and someone else makes it, that might be a different story.

Buuut to still go along with the fun habit everyone's doing for Big Nos, I will now link this.
