So... I can do drugs with nords? I'd love this game if that were the case, no matter the flaws.

Yup, I'm abandoning this whole "pursuing life thing", Skyrim lets me marry someone of the same sex AND kill dragons.

It's nice to see this trend catching on in games. It just makes sense to include options for everyone since it doesn't take much effort.

I wish that it was a little more clear who you can romance though. Based on the wording, it seems like it might just be set partners. Though surely more will come around via mods.

..And even Skyrim, a game set in medieval times, has legalized Gay Marriage before the United States does!

Is it just me, or does that sound really, really sad?

Huh. Shouldn't be too hard to mod out for the conservative half of the nation...
I wouldn't exactly call it half of any nation in the developed world which is against same sex relationships.

Unless america really is still that arse backwards :\
Exact figures (and debates on referring to one side of a contentious issue as "backwards") aside, there remains a substantial playerbase(including myself) who would rather not have liberal politicking shoehorned into our escapism.
Curiously, when it's a game that only has a purely, set-in-stone heterosexual relationship that can be formed, it's "realism". But when a game has options for both a heterosexual relationship, and a homosexual relationship (just like in real life, both exist), it becomes "liberal politicking".

Not all liberals are friendly to homosexuals, and not all conservatives are hostile to the very concept of homosexuality. Get over it, you aren't forced to engage in a homosexual relationship in the game, either way.

Wait, wait, i don't get this.

A game taking relationship side quests... Maturely? *dun dun duuuuh*

Really, it's just a matter of time before moral guardians start jumping to conclusions *looking at you, Fuck-- I mean, Fox News* and saying that the game does not "Allow" but "promotes" homosexuality, and since we all know that gay people are the worst threat to international security after antrax (both the band and the highly toxic chemical), because, you know, it's DIFFERENT. Ooooh, different.

"(just like in real life, both exist)" - So do various other sorts of fetishes - will The Elder Scrolls 6 allow you to marry your dog? (Assuming Peter Molyneux doesn't get there first, of course)
Having a game feature a virtual society which adheres completely to one side of a political argument is in and of itself alienating to the people on the other side of the argument. Imagine if Deus Ex: Human Revolution for some reason were to feature the ability to convert to Christianity (just Christianity, mind - not Islam or Hinduism, for the sake of discussion) with the resulting abilities to pray to recover health faster, summon guardian angels to fight for you, and return from the dead. Even assuming this was perfectly balanced, the mere presence of such a one-sided politico-religious world element in (a non-niche) game would likely be met with derision, scorn, and hatred from atheist gamers worldwide.

Thus, just as Oblivion quickly obtained mods allowing homosexual relationships (opening a previously one-sided game to players of all stripes, albeit even heterosexual relationships were implemented with mods), so too will Skyrim - to remove them. And thus my escapism will once more peaceably agree with my political viewpoint. I don't see the issue here.

I hope the relationship sidequests aren't as trivial as the ones in Fable 3. Hell, I hope the game is nothing like Fable 3, because while I like the Fable series, Three was just so... Meh.

I have no problems with this one way or the other. What I do hope they do is remember that not everyone is gay or bi in the universe. I think dragon age 2 went a little overboard in that respect. And if everyone in the game simply "goes gay" for you (or for that matter straight) well that would ruin some of the immersion for me. There are people in the world who will love you like a brother or a sister and I'd think it would be a shame not to represent that kind of bond in favor of broadening up your marriage prospects. It would probably get a little awkward as well. "Oh so... you too Ulfgar, with whom I slayed the frost giants of Kazkernock and the dragon lord of Skywatch? Is everybody trying to get in my pants?

You don't. That's the point.

It's an option for those that do.

Don't deal with it then. The whole point of it being a ROLE-PLAYING Game is that you do what you want. If you don't want to start a relationship with an NPC, don't. You don't want to kill a dragon, don't. You don't want to do a side-mission you think is pointless, don't.

Gah! So much good news about this game! Why is it not 11/11/11 yet!?

I'm seriously considering buying several copies of this game. I mean, I probably won't use the feature but just the fact that they would add it is nice.

Ah, the ever famous "If two men can marry, what's to stop a man and a dog, or a man and a child?" rhetoric Fox News loves to spew. THERE IS ZERO WRONG WITH TWO CONSENTING ADULTS LOVING ONE ANOTHER. I applaud Obsidian for not breaking down before the people who feel the rights of many people should be oppressed because a book and its imaginary writer said so.
Congratulations on having an opinion. Please don't try to enforce it on others, and don't be surprised when people don't agree with you.

With that said, this is turning heated so I shall depart. G'day, gentlefolk.
