What is your all-time most awkward and uncofortable conversation you've had with a parent?

Mine is pretty much summed up in the thread title, but I'd like to hear from others.

EDIT: No, I am not in the closet. I just happen to be a female who has male friends, is interested in carpentry and masonry work, and who doesn't put having a relationship high on the priority list.
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt...

no, I kid. I love the whole "assumptive stereotype" sort of thing.

Come to think of it, I don't have many awkward parental discussions. I think the worst I've ever had was when my mom found a condom in the trash and freaked out. Not because I was having sex, but because condoms "are unreliable."

...She then offered to pay for birth control for my girlfriend.

Honestly, the most awkward moment was when I had to bite down on my tongue to avoid saying "but I've used hundreds, and I haven't had any problems!" Because that would SO not help things.

"The sex talk". My dad decided to talk to me about how "it's about giving" etc on a 1 hour drive home from the cabin... within the first 20 minutes. Awwwwkward.

Well I'm from Yorkshire, so there's very little of that kind of talk. I never had "the talk" and I've since lost my virginity. Sadly enough, that was private and when me and that girl broke up, the week after, my dad said "so... you have a girlfriend, yet?" and I just went "...no..." so I suspect he thinks I'm gay.

The day my mom caught me smoking weed. Now that was very uncomfortable, but I was eating watermelon the entire time which made it better.

Also got one for my brother. Our mom tried to get him to date one of our cousins.

What's wrong with this? Pokemon's awesome no matter how old you are. In fact I recently found out I can legitimately catch Mew in the first Pokemon, man finding that pink cat-thing in-game was awesome.
....wait, where did you find mew? O.O
EDIT: all i did was walk into gamestop to buy my own soul silver... yeah...

In middle school I joined the wrestling team. After one day at practice I was asked by my mum, "So how does your penis compare to the rest of the boys?"

I really didn't know how to respond to that. I was only 14. W.T.F.
I don't care what anyone else has said or will say, only a few others were actually awkward, and none even fucking touched this one.
You win this thread, in my mind, at the very least.

If you have anymore stories, please tell them.

Well, I had a great (rolls eyes) one today.

Edit: Oh yeah, and my mom has several times jokingly told me that she got me in order to get out of military service.
Is military service in Norway compulsory for women? :|
Yes. Though, you can refuse, and instead have to do social service.

Or, well, it's a bit complicated now. A while back, almost all people had to do military sevice; but these days the military doesn't want you if you have a small injury.
Why on Earth does Norway of all places have compulsory military service? I can't think of anybody who'd want to attack you guys.
SOMEONE MIGHT WANT OUR OIL!! WE NEED TO PROTECT IT, IT'S OUR OIL!!!!!!!

On a serious note, it might have something to do with tradition. We have had laws about compulsory military service since the viking-age. Also, we were infact invaded by Germany in 1940-something. You see, due to the country's geography, it is of incredible strategic value in naval warfare.

We also have a small population (under 5 million), so to be able to keep a military running, we almost have to have compulsory military service.

Also, we have realized that times are peaceful, so we are scaling down the military. They did not want me, for example.
Well, that makes more sense, thanks.

When my family was visiting my brother at Cornell University, my dad was constantly pointing out the surprising number of foreigners there. Although I'm not Japanese, I speak Japanese, watch tons of anime, and have some anime posters up in my room. And during the car ride home, my dad said:

"Yeah there were a lot of Japanese people there... and they looked exactly like Wyatt (my name)."

Annoyingly I think my parents think I'm a weaboo, which I'm not,and I hate being mistaken for one.

Parents talking about drugs. They're ex-hippie types. That was awkward.
Oh, I had that from my mother. Actually pretty good. "I'm not gonna tell you not to do drugs, because I did drugs and well...it was great."

She was swift to add that some of her friends had "kind of bad...ish experiences" though, so it's alright :p

Long story short you can capture it just outside of cerulean city.

This thread is somewhat about coming out of the closet.

I think it might be time for you to do that.

my friend "came out of the closet" last may...i never had the chance to hear it from him personally, because a friend of ours told me. the story went as follows: he then was a virgin, our friend tried to be "friendly" and convince him of the benefits of them having sex. i mean...she asked, quite bluntly, if he wanted to have sex w her. he then replied, i imagine feeling quite awkward, that he thinks he's gay. and she felt insulted! ever since then they dont really talk, but if they do, the girl acts like a *****...:S:D
about parental conversation..i think when my mom was asking if i had already had sex w anyone, and how was it etc.....that was one hell of a conversation. knowing that she had her moments when younger:D

Isn't this thread about awkward conversations with parents?

... and what are you implying?

Well, there was the time I found out my dad is sterile.
We were driving home from the Marine Corps Museum (great museum by the way), and he just mentioned it while we were talking.

Then there's the times when my mom lapses into the "If we leave you alone with the internet, then you'll talk to online predators and watch porn!" argument.
Explaining what Firefox meant was tough on its own...

She's also convinced that downloading anything to her computer will corrupt it.

My parents actually never really suspected that I was gay until I did come out of the closet, but it probably helps that I didn't know for a while either (thought I was bi).
I hope this doesn't sound too ignorant, but doesn't saying you're bi count as coming out of the closet?

OT: That would have been the time my mom discovered the playboy magazine my older brother gave me. My parents are kind of puritan.

My mum thought I was secretly a sexgician (new word ftw. Definition: popular with the ladies) because I never told her about my girlfriends.

But over the 4 years of secondary school, I hadnt had any girlfriends....thanks for the reminder mum.

UWEH

Though I did laugh, then she was really suspicious of me....I wonder if she watched me sleep 0_o
