Oh I don't think so. Very difficult? Yes. More difficult then rehashing games and releasing them for profit? Yes. But I don't see in any way that they cannot get together a group of talented developers, which do exist, and create a final product such as this. And no I never said all of the chapters, the space marines for me are just a player in a much vaster game. They could include the normals, the ultras, the fists, the ravens, blood angels, you have plenty of good non "obscure" chapters of space marines, and while the obscure ones may be some of the coolest, like I said, Space marines are only a small part of the universe. (It seems like they're the easiest to jump in and relate with, probably why they're so popular, besides them being completely bad-ass.) Regardless, you don't need to delve into the particulars of the chapters, or fleets, or cepts, or individual necron uprisings. You can do what dawn of war did. Hate all you want, but that game did a very good job of making the universe accessible, scaling it down, and still providing a great experience. Sure they made the individual space marine chapters non-individual, but the game still worked, and it allowed the fans of other races also have fun in an admittedly generalized way. (except the tyranids, damn they god screwed :[) I can understand, as a fan of 40K myself, that removing any small measure of detail or cannon would unravel many of things that make 40K as beautiful as it is, but we do have to consider gameplay here. This is a game were considering, not an epic novel series or epic animated series or anything, this machine still has to have a basic playable spirit. And I for one was content with the cuts they "had" to do for other games, including this space marine. Now I'm just challenging them to go a step further, make a hell of an epic game, put some time and effort into it. To be honest the only thing I'd be worried about is the balancing, I mean everything in this series is a badass unto itself, but I'm sure with a dedicated fan base behind development, good design practice, and maybe 152 beta's , we could come away with something world-crackingly epic. Or not, it really comes down to if theres a market or not, and sadly enough, we lived in the remix/rehash/re-invisioning/re-boot era, so chances are, no holding down the command point while the heavy bolters keep the tides at bay, holding on for the moment that the basilisk cannons find the right range to devastate the hordes of orks, as tau barracudas streak by over head, in pursuit of eldar jumptanks..... and ah hell i have to stop, I can imagine like that all day.
