This has to be one of the best marketed zombie games out there. Seriously, I only saw the trailer yesterday, and I'm already looking forward to it. Here's hoping they can back it up. They've got a massive expectation to reinforce here.

This is the best video game trailer I've ever seen, next to this:

Both are extremely emotional, though. It's a pretty big feat to make trailers that amazing.

That trailer made me weep T_T

At least there's a possibility this will finaly get released. It's been in development since 2007 and gone through many reincarnations since.

I've been looking at responses to this trailer around the internet (here included), and what the hell? I understand it has no game-play, but when I read comments that say "It has no game-play in it, so obviously it's gonna suck," I get frustrated.

And yes, the little girl was put in specifically to form an emotional bond, which is exactly why they put her in there. They're appealing to human nature. Would it be less "cheap emotional attachment" if it was a teenage boy?

God, with all the shitty trailers out there, the hate this one is getting is gonna make me pop a vein.

Resident Evil.

Wish granted.
I never really liked the RE gameplay, I respect the series, yes, and I like it, but I can't deal with the gameplay o.o
'
What gameplay? You asked for a third person zombie game, that's third person zombie game!

Some people just can't be pleased. D<
Nope :) I'm still hoping for something like Undead Nightmare but in the modern age o_O ...or even a in a bit futuristic setting? D:

I remember this game being announced YEARS ago, it must have been 2 or 3 years by now.
Still, I'm looking forward to it, I like the idea of a non-left 4 dead zombie game.
me too

I was looking forward to this game BEFORE the trailer...but then I forgot it existed

But as a trailer, the Dead Island one strikes me as a calculated bore that ticks every single cliché box over the past few years on how to make trailers and adds the kid into the mix to scrounge up the edge factor into it.
Talk about cynicism... yeesh.
A cynic is just a person with enough experience to know better.
Dont get me wrong, im all for cynicism but your really just sounding like an asshole right now

OT: I liked the trailer, it was really good, sure it was cliched but everything these days is, people cant seem to understand that sometimes cliches are the best way to do things, otherwise you just get people trying to be "original" for no other purpose than trying to be original which generally fails miserably. As for using a child in the trailer, is it that hard to believe that she's in there for emotional depth rather than just "omgz we haz children in this we are edgy and hardore" I mean sure it might be that, but sometimes you have to consider that things are in games/movies/books for reasons other than marketing?

Woah. Well, now I see why there was a thread about the death of children being the new "hook" in video games. I'm very surprised they chose to depict a dead child for a game trailer. Considering that Dead Rising 2 specifically avoided ever showing Katey zombified (let alone dead), I assumed it was some sort of impossibility to get dead/zombie children past censors.

Is that necessarily a bad thing though? Sure free speech is great and all that, and they certainly have the right to include whatever they feel is important to their game/storytelling, but how much use do we really have for dead kids in games, besides cheap emotional manipulation? I have a feeling this was mostly done just to get people emotionally hyped for the trailer, and it probably won't have much to do with the actual game itself (though I could be wrong).

Here's a recut version of the trailer that I actually found more interesting.

Lol how is that any more interesting? It's literally just the same video in reverse.

*Sigh* Videogame trailers without gameplay... Are people missing the whole point or am I?

i dont see why people are focusing on the fact that the kid died...what did you expect?
when a family goes on vacation and shit goes down this kinda stuff happens? i thought modern gamers liked "realism" in their video games but then when devs try to put realism in other than "I'm a gritty warrior with a gun fighting the flavor of the month bad guy" people start to rage.

Just admit that the trailer got you to feel something and move on people sheesh.

I don't understand the uproar about the child. What the hell do people think would happen to children in a zombie outbreak? They fly away on unicorns unscathed?
This just shows that many many people still see videogames purely as enterainment or, the gods forbid, toys even amongst gamers. They can't fathom that a game addresses mature situations like this.

I, for one, can fathom that and I welcome a mature zombie game. Don't get me wrong, I love L4D2 and I love Dead Rising 2. Fun little zombie games they are, but all the zombie games I've played so far are all about crazy fun (I so need Resident Evil 4). Nothing wrong with that, but I'd like to see a zombie game that focusses a lot more on emotions. I hope this game will deliver just that.

Also, at some points I was really doubting whether it was CGI or live-action.

Given, it'd be less clichéd if they'd use that. I think it'd provide more emotional death; dad and his early-teens boy acting all bro-like and tough, but when you see him fall and his father doing everything to save him and the look on his face when he can't, that'd show a deeper layer underneath the everyday attitude. And that, I think, would show the stark difference between such a normal thing like going on a holiday and that emergency situation. Better than a little girl.

I am bedazzled why the girl ran back to their hotel suite. What were she doing out there?!

Couldn't she just had held candy bars or other forms of nutritions to make the viewer know exactly why she had gone, and why she is running back? Say, she was spotted by the zombies while attempting on her own to find food; a motive which leads to her and the family's death ultimately.

And furthermore, why hadn't the dad picked up that ax and been ready in the first place?

... But than again, they never explain IF the zombie-occurrence is already known or something that occurred while they weren't looking.
And if the daughter were the first one to find out, this is explainable.

All in all, 7 out of 10.
10 if it was a trailer for an animated zombie movie. Which it isn't... Sob.

Wow....Heavy Rain eat your heart out.

*just gets pun*

This is definately a case of brilliant marketing. The CG is perfect, the music is breathtaking, and the story it tells is both chilling and greif stricken at the same time. If the developers put even half the amount of effort it took to create this trailer into the game, it will be a great game.

Definately keeping my eyes out for this one in the future.

I have a three year old daughter and that trailer is not going to let me sleep well tonight.
But otherwise, it's being release this year and I've hear nothing about it - not a good sign. First person melee? I always find hack 'n' slash easier from over the shoulder. I'm not getting a good gameplay vibe, but trailer of the year, absolutely trailer of the year...
